  • Dow has added new products to its DOWSIL line of silicone-based sealants and adhesives
  • The 6 new products can be used for frame sealing, rail bonding, junction box bonding and potting for solar PV module assembly, it says
  • Dow claims its DOWSIL line providing durability and reliability to the modules, and also for BIPV applications

US based chemicals company Dow has expanded its DOWSIL line of silicone-based products adding 6 sealants and adhesives solutions to be used for frame sealing, rail bonding, junction box bonding and potting for solar PV module assembly and building integrated (BIPV) installation materials.

"As needs in the building and infrastructure industries evolve, our solutions must evolve with them," said Dow's Global Strategic Market Director for Building and Infrastructure Solutions, Jean-Paul Hautekeer. "Our DOWSIL™ PV Product Line will allow us to deliver innovative, next-generation, silicone materials that support our customers' needs while helping to advance a more sustainable world."

Dow supplies its silicone-based products to be used as adhesives and encapsulants during module assembling. These are dispensed as a liquid and cure into highly transparent elastomers, lending durability and reliability to the end product.

Hautekeer added, "Silicones are critical materials in the PV assembly and we are continuously working on more innovations within this product category, such as backsheet cracking repair solutions and solar cell encapsulation through silicone technology."

In 2022, Dow introduced its DOWSIL 9955 as a silicone-based encapsulation solution for BIPV segment using advanced curing chemistry that can be used in harsh weather conditions, especially in high temperatures (see New Silicones With High Durability For BIPV).

Dow's Chemical's PV Application Technical Leader Yuyan Li presented the company's ENGAGE PV POE based encapsulant solutions for high efficiency bifacial modules during TaiyangNews Virtual Conference on Reliable PV Module Design in December 2022 (see Encapsulants For Bifacial Modules).
