Ebbing Trend: PERC’s presence has consistently dipped over the last 2 years, falling from 50% to 38%. While it was the dilution caused by other technology-based products being listed initially, companies have started withdrawing PERC products from the market of late, especially during H2 2024. PERC Technology’s Declining Share In TOP SOLAR MODULES Listing

Amid rising competition, PERC’s share shrinks as product numbers fall from 24 to 20 in 2024, with companies shifting to advanced technologies

  • The number of PERC products decreased from 24 in January 2024, representing a 44% share, to 20, or 38% share, by December 2024

  • In H2 2024, 5 PERC modules were delisted, including those from Kalyon, Tongwei, Astronergy, Talesun, and JinkoSolar, as companies moved away from PERC technology

  • PERC started 2023 with 17 products and a 50% share, which fell to 44% by year-end due to growing competition from other technologies

The TaiyangNews TOP SOLAR MODULES Analysis 2024 report examines the market share of various solar cell technologies – IBC, HJT, TOPCon, and PERC – over the past 2 years. While previous articles focused on IBC, HJT, and TOPCon, this article turns its attention to PERC technology.

The share of PERC products has been decreasing over the past 2 years. The year 2024 started with 24 products corresponding to a 44% relative share, which was unchanged from the previous month but went up by 1% next month. In March, Kalyon’s product was added to the list, taking the relative share from 43% in February back up to 44%, the same as the beginning of the year (see TOPCon: The Fastest-Growing Solar Technology In 2024).

H2 2024, however, saw a consistent decrease in PERC product numbers, from 25 to 20. It started with the delisting of Kalyon’s PERC module added only 4 months before, in March. This was followed by Tongwei delisting in September, Astronergy and Talesun in October, and JinkoSolar in December. These dropouts were all due to these companies ceasing the production and commercial sales of PERC-based modules. What this led to was a considerable drop in PERC’s share to 38% in December 2024 (see HJT Technology Trends In TOP SOLAR MODULES Analysis 2024).

The situation was much different at the start of 2023 when the 17 listed PERC products accounted for a 50% share of the total. The number of products remained so till the end of H1 2023, but the share had dropped to 45% by June. July saw the addition of 6 products, from Qn-SOLAR, SolarSpace, URECO, CECEP, GCL Si, and Runergy – all commercially available PERC modules with or above 21.5% efficiency. These additions pushed PERC’s relative share back near 50%, only to decrease in subsequent months with an increasing number of products based on other technologies getting listed. While ZNSHINE’s PERC module did get listed in October, its share dropped to 44% to remain so until the end of the year 2023 (see IBC Technology: Efficiency Leader With Limited Representation In 2024).
