  • BMK has launched 2nd funding round for solar PV and storage systems in Austria
  • It is offering €106 million to support installations till up to 1 MW capacity
  • 2 more rounds will be launched in August and October this year to complete €600 million state funding in 2023

The Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) in Austria has opened its 2nd funding round for solar PV and storage projects offering €106 million in total out of €600 million to be disbursed in 4 calls this year.

Of the total available, €45 million comes from the Renewable Energy Sources Expansion Act (EAG). A total of €35 million out of this, will support systems of up to 10 kW with €285/kW under category A, and those between 10 kW to 20 kW with €250/kW under category B.

Remaining amount along with €61 million from the climate and energy fund makes up the entire €106 million available for this round.

Under category C, system sizes of 20 kW to 100 kW will be funded with a maximum of €160/kW, while category D covers system sizes of between 100 kW to 1 MW with up to €140/kW.

Like in the 1st round, applications from private individuals applying for funding for up to 20 kW systems not selected via the EAG, their applications will be forwarded to the channel of the Climate and Energy Fund without any additional paperwork.

“The demand for solar power plants remains high. I am very pleased about that, because the expansion of solar power strengthens our independence and ensures falling energy prices,” said Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler.

Launched on June 14, 2023, the call will be open to applications till June 28, 2023. Details are available on a dedicated website for the EAG processing.

The ministry had issued 1st funding round in March 2023 to award more than €250 million for solar and storage systems (see Austria Announces Auction Timeline For Solar Funding).

It will be holding 2 more funding calls in August 2023 and October 2023 for which a budget of at least €115 million is still available.
