German energy company EnBW Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg is expanding its renewable energy portfolio by purchasing around 400 MW of pre-developed solar PV projects in Brandenburg from Procon Solar GmbH, with an option to add another 400 MW to the deal.
EnBW aims to grow its renewable energy portfolio to account for at least half of its total power generation portfolio by 2025.
The initial portfolio of 400 MW under the contract will be delivered to EnBW on July 1, 2022, along with 9 Procon Solar employees. The other 400 MW capacity is currently at an early stage of development and can be optionally transferred by early February 2023.
Procon's Cottbus location will work as an EnBW branch in the future, the latter stated.
"We still have a few hurdles to overcome before the individual projects are approved and can be built. The decisive factor here is that these are future-oriented projects for the expansion of renewable energies, which we are continuing to implement together with the municipalities, regional authorities and other parties involved," said Thorsten Jörß who is responsible for PV project development at EnBW.
The German utility currently has a PV project pipeline of around 2.5 GW of its own. With the addition of 800 MW from Procon, it will increase by 25% to 3.3 GW.
Earlier this year, EnBW commissioned 2 subsidy free solar power plants of 150 MW each in Brandenburg (see Europe PV News Snippets).
