ACWA Power has commissioned its Al Shuaibah 2 Solar Power Project in Saudi Arabia
With 2.06 GW capacity, the project will supply power generated to SPPC
It is located adjacent to the 600 MW Al Shuaibah Solar Project, also an ACWA Power asset
Saudi energy group ACWA Power has formally announced the commissioning of its Al Shuaiba 2 Solar PV Independent Power Plant (IPP) in Saudi Arabia with a 2.06 GW AC installed capacity.
Its project company received the commercial operation certificate from the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) on February 19, 2025. The project capacity is spread out in 3 sub-projects, all of these are now in full operation. ACWA Power is a 35.01% stakeholder in the project company Shuaibah Two Electrical Energy Company.
The country’s Water and Electricity Holding Company (Badeel) is ACWA Power’s partner for this project located in the Al Shuaibah region of Jeddah. The Al Shuaibah 2 solar plant is located adjacent to the Al Shuaibah 1 project with 600 MW AC capacity. These were built for an estimated $2.37 billion project cost.
Both projects use n-type bifacial monocrystalline silicon modules with the SPPC as the principal offtaker. The project was originally scheduled to come online by Q4 2025 (see PPAs Signed For ‘Largest’ Solar Power Plant In Middle East).
SPPC is seeking more renewable energy as it launched a call for 4.5 GW of new solar PV and wind energy capacity under the country’s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP) round 6 (see Saudi Arabia Launches Call For NREP Round 6 With 4.5 GW Capacity).
