US based global investment firm Carlyle Group has set up a new European renewable energy platform Telis Energy, with a focus on solar, to target a utility scale project development pipeline of over 10 GW by 2030. It will be led by ex-Interim CEO of Cero Generation of Macquarie Group, Adrien Pinsard as the CEO.
Headquartered in London, Telis Energy counts France, the UK, Germany and Spain as its 4 main geographies with plans to expand to other European markets in the future. Notably, all 4 countries have well-defined renewable energy targets that provides policy certainty to investors.
Under its business model, Telis will develop and partner on high quality renewable energy projects by identifying, planning and executing on development and investment opportunities.
"Leveraging Carlyle's experience, we believe Telis is well positioned to capture emerging opportunities in solar, and other renewables segments, across European markets, benefitting from increased buyer demand for scalable and well-supported development platforms," said Carlyle Infrastructure Group's Chief Investment Officer, Pooja Goyal.
Pinsard also headed Lumani Energy of Macquarie Group to acquire French developer GLHD, and later headed Cero Generation as the interim CEO. Cero Generation was launched as Macquarie's Green Investment Group's European solar energy platform with 8 GW portfolio (see GIG Launches Cero With 8 GW Solar Development Portfolio).
The launch of this new company builds on the strong momentum behind renewables investment and development and Carlyle's experience in the segment. It company already has a large scale renewable development platform in the US called Copia Power that counts its development pipeline adding up to more than 16 GW and plans to start construction on more than 1 GW in 2023.
