Shenzhen Nanshan Power has announced plans to acquire between a 51% and 70% stake in TrinaTracker
The acquisition would help Shenzhen Nanshan expand beyond gas-fired power generation
Trinasolar reportedly plans to bring in a strategic partner while consolidating its solar and energy storage businesses
TrinaTracker, one of the world’s top 10 solar tracker manufacturers, could get a new majority shareholder as its parent company Trinasolar proposes to sell up to 70% of its stake in the business.
Chinese gas turbine power generation company Shenzhen Nanshan Power recently announced that it plans to acquire a 51% to 70% stake in TrinaTracker under a Letter of Intent for Equity Acquisition signed with Trina Solar (Changzhou) Technology. The deal refers to the purchase of shares in Trina Solar Pioneer Mounting System (Changzhou, Jiangsu).
Shenzhen Nanshan plans to complete the transaction in cash. If completed, TrinaTracker will become a controlling subsidiary of Shenzhen Nanshan. According to the interested buyer, it is likely to qualify as a major asset restructuring under China’s regulations governing listed companies.
For now, however, the agreement is in the planning stage. The final equity stake, transaction valuation, price, and payment arrangements are yet to be determined.
Shenzhen Nanshan says this transaction will help it expand into new business segments beyond gas-fired power generation business, creating a “second growth curve, and open up new avenues for development.”
While Trinasolar has not commented on the proposed deal officially, it reportedly told local news outlet Beijing News that the move aims to introduce a strategic partner, leverage synergies, and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
Trinasolar emphasized that it will continue to build on its strengths in integrated solar and energy storage solutions while consolidating its core solar and storage businesses. It is also increasingly exploring AI data center (AIDC) power requirements as a focus area.
Wood Mackenzie placed TrinaTracker in second place in its Global Tracker Manufacturer Ranking 2026. Its product portfolio now also includes robots for PV mounting installation and cleaning (see TrinaTracker Launches PV Installation & Cleaning Robots).
At the TaiyangNews Solar & Storage Power Plants Developments Conference 2026, TrinaTracker’s Product Manager Ayim De La Fuente presented the company’s total product portfolio, including SuperTrack optimization software (see TrinaTracker Discusses Trackers, Software, & Robotic Solutions).
This is, however, not the first time Trinasolar has moved to reduce its direct ownership of a business. Previously, it sold a majority stake in its 5 GW module manufacturing facility in the US to FREYR, now T1 Energy, while retaining a minority stake in the business (see Amid ‘Geopolitical Risks’ Trinasolar Sells Off 5 GW US Solar Module Plant).
