Waaree will produce and supply specialty gases and chemicals for solar cell and semiconductor manufacturing
It will develop Gujarat facility in phases, with UHP ammonia, oxygen and phosphine/hydrogen products among the planned offerings
Waaree is also set to merge Indosolar into the group to integrate its cell and module manufacturing operations
Waaree Energies Limited is entering the specialty gases business through its wholly-owned subsidiary Waaree Clean Energy Solutions (WCES). It will supply ultra-high purity gases and chemicals to India’s semiconductor and solar cell manufacturers.
Waaree sees an opportunity to become a “one-stop supplier” to the industry, as manufacturers currently rely heavily on imported high-purity process gases and chemicals. The company aims to address this supply gap, which it identifies as a critical bottleneck for the industry.
“Government incentives are expanding semiconductor and solar cell capacity, and the gases business is designed to grow with it and give manufacturers a dependable alternative to imports,” explains the management.
WCES will operate from a specialty gases plant at GIDC Saykha in Dahej, Gujarat, to be built in three phases.
It is developing the specialty gases business in phases. The plan includes warehousing and handling facilities designed to meet semiconductor-grade safety and purity standards, along with units for ultra-high-purity (UHP) ammonia purification and UHP oxygen production.
The company is also setting up a phosphine/hydrogen (PH₃/H₂) mixing plant to produce precision gas blends used in doping and deposition processes. UHP Oxygen and UHP Hydrogen is already commercially available, it said.
Its UHP portfolio includes Silane, Ammonia, Nitrous Oxide, Phosphine mixtures, Boron Trichloride (BCl₃), Trimethyl Aluminium, Diborane and Germane/H₂ mixes, HBr, SF₆, Nitric Oxide, fluorinated gases and calibration gases. All of it will be backed by pan-India supply.
WCES will also design custom gas and chemical supply systems and nitrogen plants. Its Total Gas & Chemical Management System will cover storage, delivery, safety monitoring and inventory management.
WCES CEO Anuj Sharma called it “a natural extension of our deep-tech manufacturing and clean energy expertise.” With this expansion into specialty gases, Sharma said it can serve India's fabs, OSAT and ATMP units, advanced electronics manufacturers and solar cell lines.
In a related development, Waaree Energies will merge its solar module manufacturing unit Indosolar with the company, subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals. According to its website, Indosolar has a solar PV module manufacturing capacity of 1.3 GW.
The merger will bring Indosolar’s module business under Waaree Energies and combine it with Waaree’s solar cell and module manufacturing operations. Under the proposed deal, Indosolar shareholders will receive one Waaree Energies share for every 11 Indosolar shares they hold. Once the merger takes effect, Indosolar will cease to exist as a separate listed company.
Waaree acquired Indosolar in 2022 when the latter was under Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process. Back then it had 500 MW annual solar cell and module production capacity. Waaree had said that the acquisition will enable it to expand its solar cell manufacturing capacity from planned 4 GW to 5.4 GW (see Waaree Energies To Acquire Solar Cell Maker).
In its Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) filing, Indosolar said it doesn’t have its own cell manufacturing capacity and is dependent on Waaree Energies and external suppliers for principal raw materials. According to Indosolar, the merger will help simplify operations, improve production planning and create a more integrated cell-to-module manufacturing business.
Waaree Energies counts close to 29 GW of total solar PV module manufacturing capacity in its portfolio, along with up to 15.4 GW of cell capacity. It has also entered battery energy storage system (BESS) space with 5.15 GWh capacity launched in July 2026 (see Waaree ESS Starts 5.15 GWh BESS Container Facility In India).
It also entered transformer space as it plans to become a complete solutions provider. Waaree CTO Dr. Mahesh Murthy discussed the company’s long-term strategy and vision in an exclusive interview with TaiyangNews Managing Director Michael Schmela earlier this year (see Waaree’s Roadmap Beyond Solar Modules).
TaiyangNews is set to host its 3rd Solar Technology & Storage Conference.India 2027 (STC.I 2027) at New Delhi on January 20 and 21 which will bring together leading solar manufacturers, upstream technology suppliers and quality experts under one roof. Registrations for this in-person event will open soon.
