  • Enersol, operating under the aegis of sonnen, is getting ready to shutter its operations
  • It has reportedly cited lack of demand for solar and storage in Germany as one of the reasons
  • Operations will cease by October 2024, but sonnen will continue to provide after-sales service to existing customers

Enersol, the German rooftop solar PV and storage systems installer owned by battery products manufacturer sonnen, is reportedly ready to shut shop, which is likely to be as soon as by October 2024.

According to a report in the local newspaper Bietigheimer Zeitung (BZ), the drop in demand in the solar and storage market of Germany is one of the reasons for the decision to close down.

It says that Enersol is not insolvent, but is being closed. Its parent sonnen will continue to support Enersol customers with warranties.

Enersol was acquired by sonnen in 2019 when global energy giant Shell took over sonnen. In 2023, there were reports about Shell looking for buyers for sonnen.

BZ says the company had accumulated too large inventories having grown too quickly and faced a lack of skilled labor that also contributed to the issue.

Earlier this year, German solar module manufacturer Solarwatt reportedly announced plans to shut down its module manufacturing facility citing difficult economic conditions. It was preceded by Meyer Burger which shifted its module production operations to the US due to a lack of economic incentives in Germany (see Another German Solar PV Module Production Fab Closing Down).
