Tongwei Solar to launch G12R TNC Series modules: Tongwei Solar has announced that it is set to unveil its new G12R TNC series modules in Frankfurt, Germany tomorrow, January 18. The G12R series features silicon wafers with a rectangular design, measuring 2382×1134 mm – a size that was adopted as the standard by major manufacturers. IT incorporates self-developed and self-produced cell technology, including a pilot test line of 210 mm PECVD Poly with an average cell production efficiency of 26.2%. The series aims to offer enhanced power output, reduced costs, and improved system yields for residential, commercial, industrial, and utility-scale power plants. Tongwei Solar emphasizes that its optimized design for the G12R series contributes to increased container utilization, reduced transportation costs, and higher land efficiency.
Separately, Tongwei Solar has announced its Meishan City facility has received conditional approval for the energy saving report from the Development and Reform Commission of Sichuan Province. The company plans to invest about RMB 5.5 billion ($764.8 million) in the construction of 32 n-type monocrystalline silicon solar cell production lines in Dongpo District, Meishan City, from January 2024 to October 2025. The combined annual capacity of the base is expected to be 16 GW.
Recently, Tongwei Solar announced that its cumulative global cell shipments have exceeded 200 GW as of the end of 2023 (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
JA Solar plans to install 800,000 residential PV systems in 5 years: JA Solar’s subsidiary, JA Solar Intelligent Energy Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., has announced that it plans to install 800,000 residential solar stations in the next 5 years. As part of what it calls the Zero Carbon Azure Covenant, JA Solar pledges to increase research and development investment continuously and actively explore innovative solutions for residential solar PV. The company says this will help reduce 18.43 million tons of carbon, while also helping the residents earn about RMB 680 million ($94.56 million).
DMEGC to invest in 3 PV power generation projects: DMEGC has announced its plans to invest in building 3 photovoltaic power generation projects in Lianyungang, Jiangsu. The company plans to invest about RMB 5.269 billion ($733.5 million) into a fisheries PV power generation model. The 3 power plants, located in Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province, will have an installed capacity of 360 MW, 280 MW and 300 MW. The company plans to purchase solar modules, brackets, booster transformer equipment, control equipment, etc., and build supporting facilities such as booster stations and production office buildings.

Canadian Solar’s silicon ingot + crucible facility enters EIA assessment: Canadian Solar’s Hohhot silicon ingot and crucible base has entered the environmental impact assessment (EIA) phase. The 40 GW monocrystalline silicon ingot and 80 GW monocrystalline crucible facility is being built with a total investment of RMB 18 billion ($2.5 billion) in 3 phases. Facilities being built as part of Phase 1 of the base are expected to produce 30 GW of silicon ingots, 80 GW of crucible, 10 GW of monocrystalline wafers, 10 GW of solar cells, and 5 GW of PV modules, along with 5 GW of related supporting products. Phase 2 would involve 25 GW of capacity for ingots, 5 GW of wafers, 5 GW of cells, 5 GW of modules, and 5 GW of supporting products. In the 3rd phase, the company plans to add 25 GW capacity for ingots, 5 GW each for wafers and cells, 120,000 tons for industrial silicon, and 100,000 tons of polycrystalline silicon.
TrinaTracker supplies 210 MW tracker solution to Brazil: Trina Solar’s tracker solution subsidiary TrinaTracker has announced that it has successfully supplied 210 MW of its tracking solution to the Mariti photovoltaic project in Brazil. The company’s solution includes a full set of intelligent tracking solutions including Pioneer 1P, SuperTrack intelligent algorithm and smart cloud platform.
