LONGi bags two national technology awards: Chinese vertically integrated solar PV company LONGi announced that its green energy project titled: Innovation and Application of Key Technologies for High-Efficiency Low-Cost Solar Monocrystalline Silicon Wafer Manufacturing has won the second prize in the China National Science and Technology Progress Award. Also, its project: Inorganic Non-Metallic Wastewater Treatment and Resource Recovery Technology and Application has won the second prize at the China National Technological Invention Award. The China National Technology Award was established by the State Council of China in 1984 to reward citizens and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to scientific and technological progress. These awards aim to motivate scientists and technologists, accelerate the development of science and technology, and enhance national power. GD Power begins construction of 1.5 GW PV desertification plant: Power company GD Power announced that it has begun the construction of its 1.5 GW PV Desertification control plant in Xinjiang. With an investment of RMB 6.1 billion ($840.77 million), the plant is spread across 42,000 acres and is expected to be fully operational within this year. The project on completion is expected to provide 2.6 billion kWh of green electricity annually, replace 735,000 tons of standard coal, and reduce emissions of sulfur dioxide by 202 tons, carbon dioxide by 2.01 million tons, and nitrogen oxides by 325 tons.
Shanghai Electric Power acquires PV Plant: In an announcement, state-owned power generation company in China, Shanghai Electric Power, said that its subsidiary, Shanghai Electric Power Energy Development (Hong Kong), will acquire a 75% equity stake in the Romanian Prime 129 MW solar PV plant. The transaction amount is estimated to be about EUR 9.56 million. TBEA converter transformers passes tests: Polysilicon and solar inverter manufacturer TBEA said in an announcement that the ±400kV converter transformer, which it manufactured for the Longdong-Shandong ±800kV UHVDC transmission project has passed the factory tests. The Longdong-Shandong ±800kV UHVDC is a large-scale integrated energy base transmission project, combining wind, solar, thermal, and storage, and is expected to deliver over 36 billion kWh of electricity annually to Shandong Province. This This would reduce coal consumption by approximately 10.85 million tons, carbon dioxide emissions by about 14.9 million tons. TBEA has been providing converter transformers for this project. China Communications invests in Botswana 100 MW PV plant: In an announcement, China Communications Construction Company Limited (China Communications Construction) has approved a proposal for its subsidiary to invest in a 100 MW PV plant project in Botswana. The total investment is estimated to be USD 78.32 million, and China Communications will form another company in Botswana with local partners to construct and operate the PV plant.
Sany Silicon Shuozhou PV plant begins construction: Sany Silicon Energy said that its 260 MW photovoltaic power generation plant in Shuozhou has started construction. Spread across 7,181 acres, the plant will have 68 sub-arrays and a 220 kV booster station. Once it is completed in October 2024, the annual power generation will be about 396.8682 million kWh, saving 119,700 tons of standard coal. 11 GW wind and PV projects added in May 2024 – NEA: China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) released a report on newly registered energy power generation projects in May 2024. It showed that there were 763 newly registered new energy power generation projects in China. Out of this, 709 were PV projects amounting to 7.5 GW. This included 79 centralized PV plants measuring 6.8 GW, and 630 industrial and commercial distributed measuring 718 MW. There were 45 wind projects registered in May, measuring 3.5 GW.
