GCL Technology H1 2023 revenue up, profit down: Leading polysilicon supplier GCL Technology Holdings Co. Ltd. reported a year-over-year (YoY) jump of 41.8% in its revenues of RMB 20.95 billion ($2.88 billion) for the 1st half of 2023. The company attributed the increase to the solar material business, which saw increased revenues due to a ramp up in granular silicon production capacity at the company’s Leshan and Baotou base. While the company’s gross profit increased 23.9% YoY to RMB 8.8 billion ($1.2 billion), its net profit of RMB 5.52 billion ($758 million) saw a decline of 23% YoY. For H1 2023, the company’s polysilicon production of 111,054 MT was up 177% YoY, with granular silicon increasing a whopping 634% at 82,359 MT, while silicon ingots clocked in 28,695 MT. The company’s top 3 customers accounted for 63.1% of its total granular silicon shipments for the period. During the same period, the company’s wafer production was up 5% YoY at 25.4 GW. These results are a continuation of the 60% rise in revenues the company reported for Q1 2023 (see China PV News Snippets).

Hoyuan Green Energy reports H1 2023 results: Solar PV equipment and mono-wafer manufacturing company Hoyuan Green Energy Co., Ltd. reported revenue of RMB 7.173 billion ($985 million) for the 1st half of 2023, a 37% decline year-over-year. Its net income of RMB 1.017 billion ($139.6 million) was down 35% from the same period a year ago. The company said that its sales expenses increased due to its efforts in expanding the markets for its wafer and component products. The company attributed the decline in its net cash flow from operations to the decrease in polysilicon prices, which adversely affected its product prices.

Mellow Energy’s perovskite PV module breaks conversion efficiency record again: Mellow Energy’s large-scale perovskite PV module, measuring 30 × 30 cm (aperture area 800.9 cm2), has achieved a world record conversion efficiency of 21.50%, as certified by China National Photovoltaic Industry Metrology and Testing Center. Previously, in June, the company had achieved a conversion efficiency of 20.79%. The energy conversion efficiency of perovskite PV modules usually decreases rapidly as the module area increases. Mellow Energy uses solvent engineering and additive engineering to be able to precisely control the nucleation and crystallization process of large-area coated perovskite films. The company claims that it has realized large-grain, highly uniform, and highly dense perovskite thin films, and obtained large-area, high-efficiency trans-structure perovskite PV modules.

UtmoLight’s perovskite products at Wuxi Symphony Hall: Solar technology company UtmoLight has reported that the Wuxi Symphony Hall, located in CCEED, has utilized the company’s PV tiles for its “Dragon Scale” roof. The photovoltaic tile is a BIPV perovskite product jointly developed by UtmoLight and CCEED. The roof of the Wuxi Symphony Hall project covers an area of 7,000 m2. The installed capacity of the entire roof reaches 1240 kW, capable of generating 1.2 million kWh annually. An innovative design, the product adopts architectural-grade polymer film, where the optical effect is softer. In terms of performance, the surface of the product adopts a structured texture design, which has better light trapping effect. It not only increases the refraction utilization rate of light, but also has higher conversion efficiency. At the same time, it also reduces reflectivity, and has better anti-glare effect. In July 2023, UtmoLight had announced in July that the 18.6% steady state efficiency of its large-scale perovskite modules has been included in the latest version of NREL’s Champion Module Efficiencies Photovoltaic Modules world record chart (see China PV News Snippets).
