  • DAS Solar has reported achieving 26.36% efficiency for its TOPCon 4.0 Plus high efficiency cell
  • It claims this cell sets a record for the highest open-circuit voltage of crystalline silicon homojunction solar cells
  • NPVM of China has certified the cell reaching 26.36% efficiency

Chinese solar PV manufacturer DAS Solar claims to have broken the world record for high TOPCon solar cell efficiency with its in-house developed cell. China’s National PV Industry Measurement and Testing Center (NPVM) has certified the cell’s efficiency of 26.36% or its TOPCon 4.0 Plus high efficiency solar cell.

The company says this breaks its own TOPCon 4.0 large area (334 cm²) 26.33% efficiency record announced in September 2023 (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

However, in October 2023, NPVM also independently confirmed JinkoSolar’s claim of 26.89% efficiency for its 182 mm high efficiency n-type monocrystalline silicon solar cell. JinkoSolar called it a new record for “above large size monocrystalline silicon TOPCon cells” (see New Solar Cell World Record From JinkoSolar).

Regarding the 26.36% efficiency, DAS says the open-circuit voltage has surpassed 740 mV, reaching a high of 742 mV, breaking the company’s December 2023 ‘record’ of 735 mV. It claims, “This achievement sets a record for the highest open-circuit voltage of crystalline silicon homojunction solar cells.”

DAS’ TOPCon 4.0 Plus uses a new charge carrier transport mechanism, a new cell structure design, innovative metallization technology and new materials, which the company calls as the 4 innovative features that have led to this improved cell efficiency and higher open-circuit voltage.

The company is listed on the 10th position on the TaiyangNews Top Solar Modules Listing, with its 22.5% efficient n-type TOPCon solar module (see Top Solar Modules Listing—December 2023).

At the TaiyangNews High Efficiency Solar Technologies Conference in December 2023, DAS Solar’s Overseas Technical Support Manager Alex Chen shared the company’s technology roadmap under which it targets to achieve up to 27% TOPCon cell efficiency for its D-TOPCon 4.0, and reach up to 28% cell efficiency for TBC (see TOPCon Part II: High Efficiency Solar Technologies Conference Day 3).
