Dominion Energy Enters Ohio Solar Market
  • Dominion Energy has acquired a 150 MW operational solar power project in Ohio
  • Invenergy sold the project to Dominion Energy but will continue to offer its operation and maintenance services
  • Project is contracted by Facebook for its power generated and for renewable energy credits

Through one of its subsidiaries, Dominion Energy has acquired an operational solar power project with 150 MW AC capacity from Invenergy LLC for an undisclosed amount. This is its 1st solar energy investment in Ohio with existing solar investments in the states of North Carolina, South Carolina and Utah among others.

The Hardin Solar Generating Facility in Hardin County has a contract with social media major Facebook that plans to take the electricity generated by the plant as well as its renewable energy credits under a long-term agreement. The 150 MW plant had its construction completed in December 2020.

"We continue to acquire and/or develop clean energy projects for companies like Facebook that are looking to reduce their carbon footprints and to contribute to combating climate change. And we are proud to build on our Invenergy partnership that has already produced nearly 100 megawatts of solar generating capacity elsewhere," said Dominion Energy Executive Vice President and CEO Diane Leopold.

Invenergy will continue to offer operation and maintenance services to the project.

Invenergy is also part of other solar power contracts with Facebook including 2 projects in Oregon as part of Facebook's 437 MW solar power portfolio to power its Prineville Data Center (see Facebook Partners For 437 MW PV Development).

Under its Integrated Resources Plan (IRP) 2020, Dominion Energy aims to add 15.9 GW solar to its portfolio by 2035. Last year in November 2020, the utility said it will be expanding its power generation portfolio by an additional 500 MW in the form of 9 PV facilities in Virginia (see Dominion Energy Proposes 500 MW Additional Solar Capacity).
