  • GAF Energy has announced plans to build its 2nd solar manufacturing fab in the US, picking Georgetown in Texas the location
  • Along with its existing fab in California, the new facility will increase its total manufacturing capacity to 300 MW
  • GAF Energy will be rolling out its Timberline Solar Roof at the new fab that it launched earlier this year

California, US located solar shingle products manufacturer GAF Energy will be building its 2nd manufacturing facility for solar roofs in Georgetown, Texas. This will make it the world's 'largest' producer of solar roofing as it would increase the company's total annual production capacity to 300 MW, it claims.

The Texas fab will be spread across 450,000 sq. ft. space and will increase the company's annual production capacity by 500% as it already operates another fab in California's San Jose. It does not specify the individual capacity of the plants.

Like the California manufacturing facility, the Texas plant will also be focused on its proprietary Timberline Solar Roof that it introduced earlier as the world's 1st nailable solar shingle that's lightweight, durable, and can withstand up to 130 mph winds (see GAF Energy's Solar Energy Shingle Product).

A sister company of North American roofing and waterproofing company GAF and both part of Standard Industries, GAF Energy says the Texas fab will create hundreds of local, clean energy manufacturing jobs for products assembled in America. It touts 1 out of every 4 new roofs in the US coming from GAF, providing it a large customer base to promote its product for residential solar.

"We launched Timberline Solar because we believed that more consumers would choose solar if they had a more reliable, durable, and attractive option. The market has confirmed our belief—now we're turning that belief into reality and building the future of clean energy here in the U.S," said GAF Energy's President Martin DeBono.
