Mexico’s CFE bags finance for Latin America’s 1st floating solar farm; Actis acquires 2.2 GW generation portfolio in Peru, comprising solar assets; Piauí signs MoUs for green hydrogen and solar power; Trina Solar modules for 21 MW Brazilian capacity.
CFE building floating solar plant: The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has raised €150 million to build what it says will be the 1st floating solar power plant in Mexico and in Latin America, with over 120 MW capacity. It has secured this line of credit from the French Development Agency (AFD). The loan has a term of 15 years and a 2-year grace period. CFE is scouring sites in the north of the state of Sinaloa and/or the north of the state of Coahuila for the plant. The floating solar project will contribute to the diversification of CFE’s generation portfolio, compensate for reduction in hydropower in times of drought and save water during the day, it says. According to the CFE, the AFD loan has an associated donation for technical cooperation for an amount of €800,000. It will be invested in improving the planning, evaluation and incorporation processes of renewable energy plants in the National Electrical System.
Actis expands in Peru: Global sustainable infrastructure manager Actis has acquired close to 87% Enel SpA’s stake in Enel Generación Perú and 100% stake in Compania Energetica Veracruz for a total of $1.3 billion. This majority stake in Enel Generación Perú brings to Actis access to a 2.2 GW diversified energy generation portfolio with 12 operational and 1 under-construction asset. It comprises wind, solar, hydro and thermal assets. Actis says this acquisition strengthens its Latin American energy portfolio and follows the investments in Serena Energy and Valia Energia through its Energy 5 Fund.
RE agreements for Brazilian state: The State Government of Piauí has signed memorandums of understanding (MoU) for the development of green hydrogen and solar power generation projects. The first of the MoUs is with France’s HDF Energy for green hydrogen. The 2nd MoU is with Spain’s H2Greem Global Solutions and Germany’s Som Solar Outdoor Media which will together develop technologies for the production of green hydrogen for vehicles (H2V) and solar energy in Piauí. The office of the Piauí Governor Rafael Fonteles did not share other details in an official statement issued.
Trina’s Brazilian plants: Chinese solar PV manufacturer Trina Solar says 3 recent solar PV plants grid connected in Brazil are equipped with its panels. All of these are located in the State of Parana in southern Brazil with a combined 21 MW capacity. Trina has supplied its Vertex n-type 720 W and Vertex 670 W modules. All the projects were constructed by Sion Energia.
