Générale du Solaire has completed construction on a 20 MW floating solar power plant in France
It is located on a former gravel pit in the Alsace region as its largest floating PV project
Ciel & Terre has deployed its new Hydrelio technology that it calls aiR Optim
Générale du Solaire, a French independent power producer (IPP) of renewable energy, in partnership with Ciel & Terre, has introduced a floating solar power plant with 20 MW installed capacity in the French Municipality of Leutenheim.
The project is the largest floating solar project in Alsace. Its construction was recently completed in Bas-Rhin (67) on a former gravel pit ensuring the site has now become a source of renewable energy production, said Générale du Solaire for whom this is its maiden floating solar project.
It is expected to generate 21,750 MWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the consumption of 7,250 homes/year, excluding heating.
Floating solar expert Ciel & Terre has deployed its new Hydrelio technology called aiR Optim for the project. This design facilitates cable management and the installation of junction boxes and/or string inverters, while also simplifying maintenance interventions, it stated.
The French specialist claims that the aiR Optim technology is compatible with most solar panels in the market and is highly modular.
In September 2024, Q ENERGY secured €50.4 million for a 74.3 MW floating solar power plant in France, calling it the biggest such project in Europe (see Over €50 Million For Europe’s ‘Biggest’ Floating Solar Power Project).
