Sun Village Maps Out JPY 50 Billion Solar and Battery Storage Push

Japan-based renewable energy developer Sun Village has unveiled its Road to 2030 growth strategy. By the end of this decade, the company targets the development of 2 GW of solar power capacity and 400 MW of battery energy storage system (BESS). Under the plan, Sun Village will invest around JPY 50 billion in solar and grid-connected battery storage projects, strengthen its role in power supply and grid balancing, and expand participation in electricity markets.

The Japanese developer said the strategy is designed to support renewable energy growth, improve grid stability, and advance Japan’s transition to a low-carbon energy system. Its overarching ambition is to build an integrated energy business combining power generation, energy storage, and energy management while growing annual sales to approximately JPY 100 billion.

Solar-Storage Project Planned for New Clark City, Philippines

Saudi Arabia-based Acwa Power Company and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) have signed a lease agreement for a 500 MW utility-scale solar and battery energy storage in the Philippines. The 500-hectare site in Philippines’ flagship smart city New Clark City, will host the project in which the Saudi Arabian company is involved through its local subsidiary Acwa Power Philippines.

The project, as the BCDA’s anchor power locator inside the New Clark Special Economic Zone (SEZ), is expected to support data centers, advanced manufacturing, AI-driven industries and other energy-intensive businesses in the smart city development. With an initial investment estimated at a minimum of $400,000 per MW, the project aligns with the Philippines’ renewable energy and energy security goals, said Acwa. It marks Acwa’s maiden land agreement with a Philippine government agency.

Sembcorp Completes Alinta Energy Acquisition

Singapore-based energy company Sembcorp Industries has completed its acquisition of Australian energy retailer and generator Alinta Energy, finalizing a deal initially announced in December 2025. Sembcorp purchased 100% stake in the company from Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Limited.

The acquisition adds Alinta’s 3.4 GW operating portfolio and 10.4 GW development pipeline to Sembcorp’s energy business, strengthening its positioning in Australia. Alinta will continue operating under its existing brand and management team while serving its approximately 1.1 million customers and partners across Australia.

ib vogt Appoints Lenders to Raise Finance for Philippines Project

ib vogt APAC has appointed China Bank Capital Corporation and Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) Capital Corporation as lead arrangers for the project financing of its 320 MW Titan V solar-plus-storage project in the Philippines. The project is coming up in Barobo, Surigao del Sur, Mindanao region. The mandate covers arranging a senior debt facility of up to PHP 12.6 billion. Once operational, the project is expected to generate more than 500 GWh of electricity annually.

ib vogt said construction is scheduled to begin in Q4 2026, with commercial operations targeted by the end of 2027. The project is part of ib vogt’s Philippine development pipeline, which exceeds 1 GW, according to the company. Recently, ib vogt signed the Omnibus Loan and Security Agreement (OLSA) worth PHP 4.5 billion with RCBC, for its 99 MW Project Luca. This solar-plus-storage facility in Barangay Luca in the country’s Iloilo province in Visayas will be accompanied by a 4 MW/16 MWh BESS.

API Obtains Loan for 49.9 MW Solar Plant

Angeles Power, Inc. (API) has secured a PHP 2-billion loan from Bank of the Philippine Islands for the development of a 49.9 MW AC solar project in the Philippines. The parent company of listed renewable energy firm RASLAG, API is building PALDO CT Solar Project in Concepcion, Philippines. The financing will fund development works for the utility-scale solar facility, which is part of API’s growing renewable energy portfolio in Luzon. The project has already entered the construction phase, following a groundbreaking ceremony held in May, according to Power Philippines.

Ark Energy Advances Richmond Valley Solar-BESS

Ark Energy has secured approval to connect its Richmond Valley Solar Farm and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in northern New South Wales (NSW) to Australia's National Electricity Market (NEM). The project received its 5.3.4.A/B letters, confirming compliance with Generator Performance Standards, and obtained approval from the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and Transgrid. It will now be able to connect the project to the local 330 kV network through planned Richmond Valley Switching Station.

Ark Energy said the project will use grid-forming inverter technology and is expected to be among the 1st hybrid solar and battery projects in the NEM to operate through a single point of connection. Located in the Northern Rivers region of NSW, the project is planned as a multi-stage development comprising a solar farm with up to 500 MW DC/435 MW AC of generation capacity and a long-duration lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery energy storage system (BESS) with up to 475 MW of power capacity. Phase I with 200 MW AC and 275 MW/2,200 MWh BESS is scheduled to begin construction in 2026.

Australia’s Lower Wonga Solar-BESS Project Moves Ahead

Lightsource bp has started construction of the Lower Wonga project near Gympie in Queensland, Australia. The project will combine a 380 MW DC solar farm with a 281 MW/843 MWh BESS, making it one of the country’s largest solar-plus-storage developments, accoeding according to the global utility-scale onshore solar and storage companies.

Once operational in late 2028, the project is expected to generate enough electricity to power around 126,000 homes annually while adding renewable generation and flexible storage capacity to the National Electricity Market (NEM). It includes a hybrid offtake agreement with Rio Tinto to supply renewable energy backed by battery storage. The project has secured support under the Australian Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) (see CIS Tender 4 Exceeds 6 GW Target, Led By Solar & Storage).
