EDP APAC, part of Portuguese multinational electric utilities company, has completed the Yiray Clean Energy Park in New South Wales, Australia. The company calls it Australia’s ‘largest’ community co-owned solar and battery hybrid project by community investment capital. Comprising a 6.8 MW solar PV system and a 10.5 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), the project has 128 community co-owners through Energy Democracy Central West NSW Cooperative, who collectively invested AUD 1.36 million. It also received support from the New South Wales Government’s Regional Community Energy Fund (RCEF). Located in the City of Orange, the project has 11,676 solar panels and is expected to generate more than 13.2 GWh of electricity annually.
Thailand-based GUNKUL Engineering has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with the Philippine Department of Energy to advance the 784.1 MW Laguna Lake floating solar project. It is developing the project with local partner SunAsia Energy. The company targets commercial operations in Q4 2027.
Thailand-based industrial estate developer Amata Corporation, along with local power producer B.Grimm Power, is investing THB 1.2 billion in a 42.5 MW floating solar project. Located at the Amata City Chonburi Industrial Estate in Thailand, the project is being developed through Amata B.Grimm Renewable Energy, a joint venture (JV) in which Amata U holds a 75% stake and B.Grimm Power Smart Solution holds the remaining 25%. The solar facility will use reservoir space within the industrial estate to supply renewable electricity to industrial customers.
Germany-headquartered renewable energy developer ib vogt has broken ground on the 99 MW Luca Solar Power Plant in Ajuy, Iloilo, Philippines. It is expected to generate close to 158 GWh annually. This is the company’s third and largest project yet in the country to enter construction before year-end, said ib vogt APAC CEO David Ludwig. It is part of the company’s plans to bring nearly 500 MW of capacity into construction and operation by the end of 2026 in the Philippines.
Anza Power, a renewable energy developer, has acquired the Karioi and Ongaonga solar farms from Helios Energy Limited in New Zealand. This adds a combined 205 MW AC of consented, construction-ready solar capacity to its portfolio. The Karioi project has a capacity of 110 MW AC and is located in the Ruapehu region, while the 95 MW AC Ongaonga project is in Hawke’s Bay. Once operational, the two projects are expected to generate about 411,400 MWh of clean electricity annually. I Squared Capital-backed Anza Power says this expands its New Zealand development pipeline, which also includes the Somerton Solar Farm in Canterbury. Recently, Anza Power signed a tolling agreement for a 50 MW/200 MWh standalone BESS with Amazon in Australia (see Amazon Signs First Battery Storage Tolling Deal In Asia Pacific).
Verdant Energy, a renewable energy developer backed by A.P. Moller Capital, has secured up to $25 million in non-recourse project financing from responsAbility Investments AG. It will use the proceeds to advance its commercial and industrial (C&I) solar portfolio in Thailand. Verdant Energy said the funding will help accelerate the development, construction, and operation of its solar assets. responsAbility said it is providing this financing through its $500 million Climate Investment Strategy for Asia that mobilizes private capital for climate infrastructure in emerging and developing markets.
Gurīn Energy, an Asian renewable energy developer, has partnered with NAVER, a South Korean technology company, to develop clean power for AI and cloud infrastructure. Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed, NAVER will acquire a stake in Gurīn’s 216 MW Jindo Green Solar Project in South Korea. It will also enter into a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for the solar electricity generated that will support NAVER’s AI and cloud infrastructure, including its GAK Sejong and GAK Chuncheon data centers. The Jindo Green Solar project, located on Jindo Island, secured 216 MW of licensed capacity earlier this year.
