  • CECEP Solar formally marks the investment and construction of the first phase of 20 GW high-efficiency solar cells
  • LONGi to hold 49% shares of Yunnan Tongwei High Purity Crystal Silicon as the company undergoes structural changes
  • JA Solar and Nanjing Electric to jointly develop photovoltaic power generation projects

Phase 1 of CECEP Solar 20 GW high-efficiency cell production initiated:  China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group (CECEP) held a signing ceremony at Yangzhou City in Jiangsu Province. This event formally marked the start of the company's investment and construction of the first phase of its 20 GW high-efficiency solar cells capacity expansion at its manufacturing base. The planned investment is expected to be about RMB 11 billion ($1.68 billion). It was only in September that CECEP decided to set up this factory (see China PV News Snippets: Trina Solar, CECEP, Huadian). The construction of this 20 GW high-efficiency crystalline cell production  project will be realized in three phases, and Phase 1 is expected to be completed and put into production before the end of 2021.

LONGi to hold 49% shares of Yunnan Tongwei: As Yunnan Tongwei High Purity Crystal Silicon Co., Ltd, underwent structural changes, LONGi became a 49% shareholder in the company. Sichuan Yongxiang Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Tongwei, continues to be the major shareholder with 51% of the shares. Yunnan Tongwei is into research, development, production and sales of polysilicon. With LONGi, the world's largest wafer manufacturer, becoming a significant shareholder, the company has registered a 33.3% increase in capital from RMB 1.2 billion ($0.18 billion) to RMB 1.6 billion ($0.24 billion). In November 2020, Tongwei teamed up with a LONGi competitor, which pushes for 210mm based solar cells/modules – it announced a strategic collaboration with solar cell and module producer Trina Solar to jointly produce 40,000 tons of polysilicon. The new project company will also produce 15 GW each of ingots, wafer cutting and high efficiency crystalline silicon cells according to the announcement (see Tongwei & Trina Solar Joint Venture For 210 Products).

JA Solar and Nanjing Electric join hands: At a signing ceremony, solar PV panel manufacturer JA Solar and Nanjing Electric joined hands to form a long-term joint development alliance with regards to photovoltaic power generation projects. Previously, both the companies had together participated in the construction of key PV system related projects like the Zhundong-Anhui ±1,100 kV UHV DC transmission project.
