China PV News Snippets: Further Silicon & Module Expansions

GCL Technology plans to build 100,000 tons of granular silicon and 150,000 tons of high-purity nano-silicon plants at Wuhai in Inner Mongolia. This will be granular silicon, which is is less energy intensive in production compared to the Siemens based polysilicon shown here in the photo. GCL Technology to invest in silicon facilities in Wuhai: Polysilicon and silicon wafers supplier GCL Technology announced that it plans to build 100,000 tons of granular silicon and 150,000 tons of high-purity nano-silicon plants at Wuhai in Inner Mongolia. Once the facilities are operational, the company’s annual production capacity of granular silicon will rise from 400,000 tons to 500,000 tons; and high-purity nano-silicon will rise from 150,000 tons to 300,000 tons. Recently, GCL Technology’s 100,000-ton granular silicon project was put into operation (see China PV News Snippets)

Zhejiang Xingyu to build PV module manufacturing fab: Solar power generation company Zhejiang Xingyu Electromechanical Technology Co Ltd, Ordos High-tech Industrial Development Zone Management Committee, and Dongsheng District People’s Government are co-sponsoring a photovoltaic module manufacturing fab. The plan is to build a 4 GW smart bracket and a high-power photovoltaic module manufacturing fab with an investment of RMB 3.2 billion ($0.44 billion), spread across 400 mu of land. The modules produced are planned to have high conversion efficiency, high intelligence, low cost per kWh, flexible layout, and low lifetime attenuation, and can be widely used in large-scale photovoltaic ground stations and various distributed photovoltaic applications. Once the fab is completed, the annual output is expected to be RMB 13.2 billion ($1.83 billion).

Znshine solar 2 GW module facility put into operation: The Dali government announced on its website that module manufacturer Znshine solar’s Dali 2 GW phase I module manufacturing plant has been put into operation. Located in Dali Development Zone and spread across 31,000 square meters, the facility has an investment of about RMB 500 million ($69.2 million). It is said to use the most advanced production equipment and has non-destructive cutting, small pitch and high-density packaging; and multi-segment technologies to produce 182/210 size cell high-efficiency modules on a large scale.

Urumqi and Shangyao New Energy partner for 2 GW PV module production: Urumqi High-tech Zone and electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing company Xinjiang Shangyao New Energy Technology have signed up for a 2 GW high-efficiency photovoltaic module production fab, local media reports said. With an investment of about RMB 700 million ($96.8 million), the facility will be put into operation in October this year and will produce 2 GW high-efficiency photovoltaic modules.
