Construction Begins on World’s Largest Single-Phase CSP-PV-Storage Hybrid Project

Construction has begun on the solar PV section of the 1.5 GW Hami CSP-PV-thermal storage base project in Balikun County, Hami City, Xinjiang, with China Energy Engineering Group (CEEC) participating in the development. The project is touted as the ‘world’s largest’ single-phase hybrid facility combining concentrated solar power (CSP), PV, and storage.

The project includes 1.35 GW of PV capacity and 150 MW of CSP capacity, equipped with an 8-hour high-temperature molten-salt thermal storage system, enabling a round-the-clock power supply, with PV generation during the day and CSP generation at night. Once operational, it is expected to generate about 3 TWh of electricity annually, including 2.8 TWh from PV and 0.2 TWh from CSP, reducing CO2 emissions by about 2.256 million metric tons per year.

This development in Hami, Xinjiang, follows China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) fully grid-connecting its 1 GW ‘CSP + PV’ project in September 2025 (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Solamet Files PV Silver Paste Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against Pharos

PV silver paste manufacturer DKEM announced that its controlling subsidiary, Solamet, has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Zhejiang Pharos Materials Co., Ltd. and its Shanghai branch. Solamet alleges that Pharos is infringing its patented PV silver paste products, covered by Chinese patent numbers ZL201180032359.1 and ZL201180032701.8.

Solamet is seeking RMB 200 million in damages, and the Shanghai High People’s Court has accepted the case but has yet to hear it.

Earlier, in January 2025, DKEM filed separate patent infringement lawsuits against Jiangsu Riyu Solar and iSilver (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Xinjiang’s 1st Batch of Local New Energy Consumption Projects Reaches 630 MW

The Development and Reform Commission of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has released the first batch of local new energy consumption projects that use direct green power supply. It covers 4 grid-connected projects totaling 630 MW in Yining City, the Zhundong Economic and Technological Development Zone, Xayar County, and Kuche City.

The projects will serve industries including polysilicon, coal chemicals, oil and gas, and petrochemicals, adding about 1.44 TWh of annual green power consumption and reducing CO2 emissions by more than 867,000 metric tons. The province also plans to expand applications in green computing and green hydrogen, ammonia, and alcohols.

Shanxi Launches 2026 PV Allocation Competition

The Shanxi Provincial Energy Administration has launched its 2026 competitive allocation process for wind and PV projects, without setting a total capacity cap.

The plan requires individual wind or PV projects to have at least 60 MW of capacity, except for expansion projects that use existing booster stations and transmission infrastructure. Approved projects must achieve full-capacity grid connection within 18 months and cannot be transferred within 5 years after grid connection, while the policy prioritizes integrated wind-PV development and grid-friendly power stations.
