Huasun wins 840 MWp HJT module bids for 2024

Heterojunction (HJT) solar module manufacturer Huasun Energy has announced that it has secured 2 major bids with PowerChina for 2024, including a 500 MWp procurement of n-type HJT modules and a 339.68 MWp supply for the Qinhuangdao Changli offshore PV pilot project. Having been ranked first and second in these bids, Huasun says these wins demonstrate its leadership in HJT technology while strengthening its partnership with PowerChina.

The Qinhuangdao project, said to be China’s first large-scale offshore solar project in Bohai Bay, will use Huasun’s V-Ocean HJT modules, designed for marine environments with high durability against salt mist and UV exposure. Located 7.3 km offshore in waters 6-12 meters deep, the 279-hectare project aligns with Shandong province’s goal to establish offshore PV bases in the Bohai Rim and Yellow Sea regions.

Huasun launches Kunlun vertical HJT modules

Huasun has launched its vertical HJT module series, named Kunlun. These modules are designed with specialized vertical frames, making them suitable for vertically installed solar applications, such as agrivoltaics and solar transportation. The company says the Kunlun series adopts 0BB technology, with bifaciality approaching 100%, significantly enhancing photovoltaic power generation efficiency. Additionally, the vertical installation of these modules optimizes power generation curves, reduces land use, and prevents snow and dust accumulation.

Huasun Energy maintained its position on BloombergNEF’s 4Q 2024 Tier 1 PV Module Maker List (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

SPIC establishes PV & energy storage demo platform in warm temperate zone

China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) has approved the construction of the National Photovoltaic and Energy Storage Demonstration Platform (Warm Temperate Zone) in Henan Province. Led by State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC), the facility is said to be tailored to mid-latitude warm temperate meteorological conditions, serving as an outdoor testing site for PV and energy storage technologies. The platform plans to implement approximately 530 demonstration schemes, with a total equivalent capacity of 1 GW. It will serve functions such as demonstration, testing, certification, training, and research. The facility consists of 4 product demonstration zones, covering cells, modules, inverters, mounting systems, and new materials, along with 2 system demonstration zones for PV and energy storage systems.

In December, SPIC subsidiary Huanghe Hydropower Development Co., Ltd. and China Mobile launched the Qaidam Green Microgrid Data Center Demonstration Project (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Ronma Solar breaks ground on PV cell & module factory

Solar cell and module manufacturer Ronma Solar has announced that it has broken ground for the second phase of its solar cell and module facility at its Jinhua manufacturing base. Located in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province, Phase 2 of this facility will involve a total investment of RMB 7.24 billion ($1.02 billion), aiming to achieve an annual output of 12 GW of solar cells and 8 GW of modules. The total investment for the Jinhua base is RMB 10.12 billion ($1.42 billion). Phase 1, with an investment of RMB 3.84 billion ($0.54 billion), involved the construction of 8 GW of cell capacity and 2 GW of modules, and was commissioned in November 2023.

GCL Perovskite sets new large-sized perovskite module efficiency record

GCL Group’s perovskite manufacturing subsidiary GCL Perovskite has announced that its large-sized perovskite module has set a new record for photovoltaic conversion efficiency. The single-junction perovskite module, measuring 2,048 cm2, recorded a conversion efficiency of 22.43%. The company said that this achievement has been officially certified by the China Institute of Metrology.

Last month, GCL Perovskite announced the completion of its C1 series funding round, raising nearly RMB 500 million ($70.31 million) (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

CERS releases Solar Module Price Index

The China Energy Research Society (CERS) has officially launched the inaugural version of its Solar Module Price Index. According to CERS, data for the index is collected from various channels, including centralized procurement projects, on-site research at production enterprises, supply chain procurement, and the international market. The first edition indicates that the weighted price for n-type bifacial dual-glass TOPCon modules is RMB 0.665/W ($0.0907/W), RMB 0.735/W ($0.1003/W) for n-type bifacial dual-glass HJT modules, and RMB 0.755/W ($0.103/W) for n-type bifacial dual-glass BC modules.
