GCL SI breaks ground on 1 GW BC cell manufacturing center

GCL System Integration (GCL SI) has started construction on its Global High-Efficiency Solar Cell R&D Center. According to local media, the project is being built with a total investment of RMB 800 million ($111.5 million) over a land area of 52,900 square meters. It will include a pilot production line for IBC solar cells and related facilities, targeting an annual output of 1 GW of GPC (GCL SI’s IBC cell’s name) high-efficiency solar cells. Trial production is scheduled to begin in November 2025.

GCL SI states that it will collaborate closely with renowned domestic research institutions, including the University of Science and Technology of China and Soochow University, to jointly establish an Advanced Crystalline Silicon Technology Laboratory. GCL SI’s parent, GCL Group, recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Soochow University to establish the Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory for Advanced Negative-Carbon Technologies (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

UtmoLight commissions perovskite PV park

Perovskite manufacturer UtmoLight has completed its first zero-carbon industrial park dedicated to perovskite photovoltaics in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, integrating advanced solar technology with green building design. The site incorporates over 3,000 perovskite PV modules installed on fences and curtain walls, with a total capacity of 256 kW. The system is expected to generate 168,000 kWh annually, reducing CO2 emissions by 14 tons and saving 6.7 tons of coal per year.

The R&D center office building within the park also features 88 kW of vertically installed perovskite modules that provide both aesthetic appeal and insulation, with an estimated annual output of 62,000 kWh.

UtmoLight stated that it is promoting diverse perovskite applications across China, including PV roof tiles, solar façade stone materials, and curtain wall systems, targeting rooftops, carports, and perimeter fencing scenarios.

UtmoLight was one of the companies selected for the first batch of national key pilot-scale manufacturing platforms by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Wolong New Energy exits mining to focus fully on renewables

Wolong New Energy, formerly known as Wolong Resources and historically a real estate developer, has announced the divestment of its 90% equity stake in Shanghai Mining to Wolong Shunyu, a wholly-owned subsidiary of its indirect controlling shareholder, Wolong Holdings. The transaction is valued at RMB 221 million ($30.8 million).

Upon completion, Wolong New Energy will no longer hold shares in Shanghai Mining and will exit the copper concentrate trading business, shifting its strategic focus entirely to the renewable energy sector, including solar PV, wind power, hydrogen energy, and energy storage.

The company, having begun its transition into the renewable energy sector in early 2025, states that the sale will help accelerate coordinated development across its wind, PV, storage, and hydrogen business segments.

Linyang builds digital twin-based smart cell factory

Linyang Energy, a PV manufacturer, project developer and operator, has announced that its ‘Digital Twin-Based Intelligent TOPCon Cell Factory’ has been officially recognized as an Advanced Smart Factory of Jiangsu Province for 2025. With this facility, the company aims to focus on high-efficiency n-type cell production, integrating automation, digitalization, and intelligent manufacturing. A key innovation is Linyang’s deployment of a fully integrated system combining multiple platforms, IoT, and digital twin technology to create a 1:1 virtual replica of the physical production line. This enables full-process quality control throughout the cell manufacturing lifecycle.

Red Stone Energy launches 1 GW PV module factory

Red Stone Energy, a PV module manufacturer founded in 2023, has begun trial production at its 1 GW high-efficiency solar module and auxiliary product manufacturing facility in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province. This follows the rollout of the company’s first module product in April this year. Red Stone aims to achieve mass production efficiency above 27% for its high-efficiency modules in 2025. The company also plans to scale up its annual production capacity at the facility to 5 GW in the future.
