Battery manufacturer CATL and energy storage solutions provider HyperStrong have signed a strategic agreement for sodium-ion batteries, targeting 60 GWh of supply over the next 3 years.
The companies said the deal represents the largest sodium-ion battery collaboration to date, marking a step toward large-scale deployment of the technology in energy storage.
The partnership will cover R&D, product applications, and project deployment. Sodium-ion batteries offer advantages in long-duration storage, including wider operating temperature range, improved high-temperature cycle life, and enhanced safety, thereby supporting more efficient system design and lower auxiliary consumption.
In November 2025, HyperStrong signed an agreement with CATL to procure at least 200 GWh of cells for its energy storage product manufacturing over the 2026-2035 period (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
A subsidiary of China Huaneng Group in Inner Mongolia has signed a new energy cooperation framework agreement with the Songshan District government of Chifeng City.
The cooperation targets 12 GW of capacity through phased development, covering large-scale projects, ‘new energy+’ initiatives, zero-carbon industrial parks, carbon peaking pilots, and direct green power supply.
Shanxi Province plans to add 20 GW of wind and solar capacity annually during China's 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), totaling 100 GW, according to its implementation plan for the green and low-carbon energy transition.
The plan prioritizes large-scale projects, including provincial bases exceeding 500 MW, and promotes integration with sectors such as coal, transportation, construction, and agriculture. It also supports green hydrogen development and encourages combined deployment of coal and renewable energy, including distributed wind and PV projects in mining regions.
JinkoSolar’s energy storage arm Jinko ESS has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Shanghai Electric Power Electronics to jointly develop energy storage projects and solar-plus-storage technologies.
The partnership combines Shanghai Electric’s expertise in inverters and PCS with Jinko ESS’s capabilities in integrated storage systems and global project delivery.
The companies plan to collaborate on project development, equipment co-development, and deployment of integrated source-grid-load-storage solutions.
Another JinkoSolar subsidiary, Jinko Power, recently signed an agreement with the Zhongwei municipal government in Ningxia to build a 1 GW computing center (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
PV glass manufacturer Ancai Hi-Tech (ACHT) has signed a letter of intent to acquire a 51% stake in Hongnuo Technology for up to RMB 300 million in cash. Hongnuo is also a PV glass maker, with 2 kilns, each with a 1,100 t/d PV glass capacity, one already in operation since June 2024 and the second under construction.
