Huasun secures 500 MW HJT module bid

Huasun Energy has won a 500 MW contract for heterojunction (HJT) modules in China Huaneng Group's 2024 photovoltaic module procurement tender. The partnership builds on an ongoing collaboration with Huaneng Lancang River Hydropower, which began in 2022, involving a 1.7 GW HJT project in Dali, Yunnan Province, with plans to expand to 10 GW by 2025. The initiative employs Huasun’s high-efficiency G12-132 HJT modules, advancing the region’s energy transition.

Huasun says this milestone emphasizes its leadership in n-type photovoltaic (PV) technology. Huasun has delivered over 8 GW of HJT products to markets worldwide and continues to prioritize innovation and efficiency. The company operates 4 production facilities in China, supporting its mission to drive the sustainable development of the global energy sector.

In a recent release, Huasun lists the advantages of its HJT modules in plateau conditions (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Tongwei receives 2 key certifications

Integrated solar PV manufacturer Tongwei Solar has been awarded the Full-Process Power Measurement and Control Evaluation Certification for Photovoltaic Module Manufacturers by the China General Certification Center (CGC). This certification covers various aspects, including personnel responsibilities and training, standard module production and management, simulator evaluations, testing environment assessments, and power testing methods. Tongwei claims this achievement signifies its leading position in power measurement control within the PV module manufacturing process.

Additionally, Tongwei’s Yancheng manufacturing base recently passed the ISO 50001:2018 energy management system audit certification from TÜV SÜD. This highlights the Yancheng base’s achievements in energy management and green, low-carbon development. According to Tongwei, the base has established a comprehensive energy management system, implementing scientific energy management targets, full-staff training, responsibility assignments, and energy monitoring throughout the entire production chain.

Tongwei recently received the 2024 EcoVadis Gold Medal for its CSR efforts (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Mellow Energy’s 100 MW perovskite production line rolls out 1st panel

Perovskite solar cell manufacturer Mellow Energy has announced the completion of its 100 MW perovskite photovoltaic module production line in Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, with the successful off-line production of the first module. The production line focuses on large-area ground-mounted and Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) applications with 1.2 x 1.6 m perovskite modules, and it is also capable of producing indoor low-light modules and large-area flexible modules. The company states its 1.2 x 1.6 m perovskite modules have a power output exceeding 336 W under standard testing conditions, with an overall conversion efficiency of 17.5% and MPPT steady-state output efficiency of 17.4%.

Hongshi Group’s 100,000-ton polysilicon plant set for 2025 launch

Hongshi Group, a company that transitioned from the cement industry into PV, has announced that Phase I of its silicon-based new materials facility in Haidong City, Qinghai Province, has entered the final stages of equipment installation and partial commissioning. The project, which began construction in August 2023, is planned to start production in early 2025. It consists of 3 phases, with Phase I including 150,000 tons of industrial silicon and 100,000 tons of polysilicon production capacity. Phase II will add another 100,000 tons of industrial silicon and polysilicon production, while Phase III will focus on 3 x 5 GW wafer pulling and slicing lines. The total investment in this factory is RMB 29.5 billion ($4.06 billion).

Originally a Chinese cement manufacturer, Hongshi Group entered the PV sector in April 2023 with the acquisition of high-purity silicon producer Asia Silicon and announced plans for a new integrated silicon-based materials base in Haidong City. Prior to its acquisition, Asia Silicon was controlled by the former chairman of Suntech, Zhengrong Shi, who is currently the chairman of Sunman.

Huawei supplies inverters for world’s largest offshore PV project

Multinational technology company Huawei has announced that it has supplied over 3,000 SUN2000-300KTL inverters for the world’s largest open-sea offshore solar PV project, the "HG14 Million-Kilowatt Offshore PV Project" under the State Energy Group. This 1 GW project in Shandong Province features 157 power generation units, each equipped with dozens of Huawei’s 300KTL inverters. These inverters convert the electricity generated by the PV modules from DC to AC, which is then stepped up to 66 kV and transmitted to the nearby 220 kV solar power substation onshore. The first photovoltaic units of the project have already successfully connected to the grid and begun generating electricity early this month.

In September, Huawei signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with real estate developer Lianfa Group to cooperate in the fields of smart communities, artificial intelligence, and new energy, among others (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Xinjiang prioritizes renewable energy generation

The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region’s Development and Reform Commission has issued a notice outlining the priority purchase and generation plans for electricity in 2025. According to the notice, Xinjiang will prioritize 181.85 TWh of solar energy in the 2025 grid, including full purchase guarantees for poverty alleviation and distributed solar projects (29.3 GWh). Additionally, priority will be given to National Demonstration Solar Thermal Projects (19.8 GWh) and special solar photovoltaic projects (9.3 GWh). Other solar projects will be allocated a guaranteed amount of 500 hours of operation, with a total of 17.6 TWh.

Apart from solar, the priority generation includes wind power (24.88 TWh), hydropower (23.86 TWh), and biomass and resource utilization (4.04 TWh).
