Envision’s 800 V SST HVDC System Enters Commercial Operation at AI Data Center

Envision Group, a green energy technology group, has announced that its integrated 800 V high-voltage DC (HVDC) power supply system has entered commercial operation at the Xinghe AI data center base in Ulanqab. The company describes it as the world’s first system of its kind to operate commercially at a large-scale AI data center (AIDC). According to local media, the system comprises Envision’s Tianshu controller, solid-state transformer (SST), DC energy storage, and DC/DC units. It converts 10 kV AC power to an 800 V DC bus, with millisecond-level coordination between the SST and energy storage to respond to fluctuations in GPU training loads.

Envision launched its AIDC power system in June 2026, integrating wind, solar, and storage with SSTs, 800 V DC distribution, and AI-based dispatch. Its 2.5 MW SST accepts 10/13.8 kV AC input and has a stated maximum conversion efficiency of 98.5%. The solution pairs lithium iron phosphate (LFP) storage for more than two hours of backup power and energy shifting with sodium-ion storage for rapid power smoothing.

China’s New-Type Energy Storage Capacity Reaches 167 GW by End of September

China added 31 GW/84 GWh of new-type energy storage capacity in the first nine months (9M) of 2026, according to cumulative figures published by the National Energy Administration (NEA). At its Q3 press conference, the NEA reported that cumulative installed capacity reached 167 GW/435 GWh by the end of September, up 63% year on year, with average storage duration extending to 2.61 hours.

Solar additions, by contrast, slowed sharply during 9M 2026. Newly grid-connected PV capacity totaled 110.32 GW, comprising 45.80 GW of utility-scale and 64.52 GW of distributed installations, down approximately 54% from around 240 GW in the same period of 2025. Cumulative PV capacity reached 1.31 TW. Solar generation totaled 1,064.2 TWh, with a utilization rate of 93.1%.

Concentrated solar power (CSP) added 500 MW during the same period, bringing cumulative capacity to 2.32 GW. Generation reached 1.456 TWh.

Hunan Opens Renewable Energy Mechanism Price Auction for 2.286 TWh

Hunan Provincial Development and Reform Commission has launched its 2026 mechanism price auction for wind and solar projects, covering 2.286 TWh of electricity. Eligible projects must reach full-capacity operation between June 1, 2025, and December 31, 2027. Only distributed PV projects are eligible in this round; large-scale C&I distributed PV projects and projects intended for local consumption are excluded.

The total volume comprises 1.19 TWh for wind and 1.096 TWh for solar PV. Both technologies have a bidding price range of RMB 0.23-0.35/kWh, with the mechanism price applying for 10 years.

Recently, Hunan issued a trial implementation plan allowing virtual power plants (VPPs) to participate in electricity market trading (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Shenergy Selects 3 Winners for its 1 GW PV Module Tender

Shanghai-based energy developer Shenergy has released the results of its 2026-2027 PV module framework procurement tender, covering an estimated 1 GW of solar modules. The framework agreement will run from the signing date through December 31, 2027. The tender called specifically for n-type PV modules (TOPCon and BC), with deliveries required within a month of the signing of the contract (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

According to local media, LONGi ranked first with a bid of RMB 0.785/W, followed by Jinko at RMB 0.787/W and Tongwei at RMB 0.770/W.
