Sungrow’s PowerTitan 3.0 Passes Large-Scale Fire Test

Inverter and energy storage manufacturer Sungrow announced that its PowerTitan 3.0 fully liquid-cooled energy storage system (ESS) has completed a large-scale fire test involving a 28.56 MWh installation paired with a 7.4 MW medium-voltage substation. The setup replicated a utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) layout at full scale. The test lasted 7.5 hours, with the peak internal temperature in the initiating container reaching 1,259.8°C.

The fire did not spread to adjacent containers, which remained structurally intact. The initiating container could also be lifted as a complete unit after the test.

UL Solutions designed and conducted the test, with Fire Risk Alliance witnessing it and Jensen Hughes observing. Sungrow said its PowerTitan 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 systems had all passed the relevant large-scale fire tests on their first attempt.

Sungrow recently signed an agreement with five other parties to establish a private equity fund focused on energy storage assets, with total subscribed capital of RMB 1 billion (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

GCL Tech Plans to Acquire 81.91% Stake in GCL Lithium

Polysilicon producer GCL Tech has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with its controlling shareholder, GCL Group, to acquire an 81.91% stake in Sichuan GCL Lithium Battery Technology Co., Ltd. (GCL Lithium) for a preliminary consideration of about RMB 2.5 billion. Upon completion, GCL Lithium would be consolidated into GCL Tech’s financial statements.

GCL Lithium develops, produces, and sells lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode materials for new energy batteries. GCL Group has committed to GCL Lithium achieving combined adjusted net profit of at least RMB 620 million in 2027 and 2028, and developing a sixth-generation LFP cathode material with a compaction density exceeding 2.8 g/cm³ by the end of 2028.

GCL Tech said the proposed acquisition would expand its LFP business and reduce its exposure to polysilicon and wafer price cycles. No definitive agreement has been signed, and completion remains uncertain.

This move is in line with GCL Tech’s announcement of its plan to expand beyond granular silicon into a diversified new energy materials platform focused on silicon, lithium, and carbon (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Qianbo Yongtai Plans RMB 1 Billion PV Glass Line

Glass maker Guizhou Qianbo Yongtai New Materials Co., Ltd. plans to invest RMB 1 billion in a rolled PV glass production line with a capacity of 1,500 metric tons per day at Lushan Industrial Park in Kaili, Guizhou province. The facility will also include six downstream processing lines, waste-heat power generation, and an on-site PV plant.

The facility is designed to produce 2.0 mm PV front and rear glass, with an annual output of 45.84 million m² for each type. Processing operations will include coating, tempering, drilling for some rear-glass products, and screen printing.

According to the environmental impact assessment, the company currently operates a 1,250 t/d PV glass line. If the new project is completed and commissioned, the site’s designed PV glass melting capacity will expand to 2,750 t/d.

Shanxi Introduces Emergency Dispatch Compensation Mechanism for Standalone Energy Storage

Shanxi’s energy regulators have established an emergency dispatch and compensation mechanism for standalone energy storage to improve electricity market efficiency and renewable energy integration when renewable output cannot be fully accommodated.

Under the mechanism, power dispatch authorities may call on standalone storage plants that have not secured contracts for secondary frequency regulation or paid primary frequency regulation services. Compensation will follow the principle that the charge-discharge price spread must be no lower than the compensation spread for emergency dispatch. Additional incentives will be determined by discharge duration.

Shanxi will also optimize minimum operating limits and no-load cost declaration rules for coal-fired power units to enable deeper peak shaving and support the orderly shutdown of non-essential units.

AIKO Returns to Quarterly Profit in Q3 2026

Solar cell and module manufacturer AIKO reported Q3 2026 revenue of RMB 5.289 billion, up 67.89% year-on-year (YoY). Net profit attributable to shareholders reached RMB 44.57 million, compared with a loss of RMB 294.7 million a year earlier. Net loss excluding non-recurring items narrowed to RMB 24.58 million from RMB 379.82 million.

AIKO attributed the improvement to higher module sales and selling prices, which increased revenue and gross profit. For the first nine months (9M) of 2026, revenue rose 24.79% YoY to RMB 14.472 billion. Net loss attributable to shareholders was RMB 709 million, while net loss excluding non-recurring items was RMB 876 million.
