Trina Storage obtains CGC witness lab certification

Trina Storage, the energy storage division of Trinasolar, has officially obtained witness laboratory qualification from the China General Certification Center (CGC). The certification covers core safety standards for energy storage battery products, including GB/T 36276 and GB 44240, while enabling Trina Storage to conduct independent testing. With this qualification, the company can perform parts of product certification tests in-house, significantly shortening certification timelines. In addition to CGC, Trina Storage has previously obtained witness lab qualifications from TÜV SÜD, UL, and CQC.

Recently, CGC issued the GB 44240-2024 certificate for Trina Storage’s Elementa 2 series ESS, for its lithium batteries (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

CPVS releases best research-cell efficiency rankings for 2025

China Renewable Energy Society PV Committee (CPVS) has released the 2025 Best Research-Cell Efficiencies list, which records the highest laboratory-level solar cell efficiencies achieved in China. LONGi ranked prominently, appearing 3 times in the rankings, followed by JinkoSolar with 2, and UtmoLight and UNIWATT once each. Highlights include:

  • n-HTBC (Hybrid Interdigitated Back Contact): LONGi, 27.81% ± 0.47%

  • n-HBC (Heterojunction Back Contact): LONGi, 27.52% ± 0.47%

  • n-TBC (TOPCon Back Contact): JinkoSolar, 27.20% ± 0.42%

  • n-TOPCon: JinkoSolar, 26.67% ± 0.40%

  • Perovskite Single-Junction Cell: UtmoLight, 18.1% ± 0.60%

  • Perovskite-Silicon Tandem Cell: LONGi, 35.0% ± 1.00%

  • GaAs Cell: UNIWATT, 36.6% ± 1.03%.

Desun Energy breaks ground for PV car sunroof plant

Desun Energy, a manufacturer of non-standard PV modules, has broken ground on its 1.5 million-unit annual PV automotive sunroof manufacturing plant in Yifeng County, Yichun City, Jiangxi Province. The company is investing a total of RMB 300 million ($42.06 million) in this facility, which will be implemented in 2 phases. Phase 1 is scheduled for completion by June 2026, and Phase 2 will commence within 3 years of Phase 1’s launch. Upon full completion, the project will have an annual production capacity of 1.5 million PV car sunroofs, including monocrystalline solar façades and high-transmittance perovskite solar façades.

Cybrid’s H1 2025 overseas shipments surge 52% YoY despite losses

Solar PV encapsulant film manufacturer Cybrid Technologies reported RMB 1.352 billion ($189.5 million) in revenues for H1 2025, down 18.13% year-over-year (YoY). For the period, its net loss, excluding non-recurring items, expanded nearly 5 times YoY, from -RMB 15.487 million ($2.17 million) to -RMB 74.678 million ($10.47 million). According to its interim report, encapsulant film shipments reached 169.4 million m2, up 33.06% YoY, but falling prices, weak backsheet business, and asset impairment provisions led to a wider loss.

Despite declines, the company stated that it made notable progress in international markets, with overseas shipments rising 51.64% YoY, constituting 25.15% of total revenues. Additionally, Cybrid’s 5 GW encapsulant line in Vietnam has reached full capacity, supporting growing demand from customers in India, the EU, and Turkey.

At SNEC 2025 in Shanghai, Cybrid announced a global co-innovation partnership with Swiss cleantech firm LightSeeds, aimed at fast-tracking the commercial deployment of ultra-light, glass-free solar modules (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Metron reports sharp declines in diamond wire sales volume and price in H1 2025

Metron, a leading PV diamond wire manufacturer, reported RMB 1.007 billion ($141.23 million) in revenues for H1 2025, down 32.11% YoY, while net profits excluding non-recurring items fell 76.58% YoY to RMB 59.31 million ($8.32 million). In the first half of 2025, the company’s diamond wire sales volumes dropped 26.83% YoY to 528.82 million km. The company said that revenue, gross margin, and shipment declines of 32.11%, 39.74% and 18.15% YoY, respectively, were mainly due to oversupply in the solar sector, intense market competition, and falling prices across the supply chain.
