Germany Installed 1.1 GW New Solar In March 2024

• Bundesnetzagentur installed 1.1 GW of new solar PV capacity during March 2024 
• It contributes to 3.72 GW of total capacity added during Q1/2024, compared to 3.13 GW during Q1/2023 
• Germany's cumulative installed solar PV capacity increased to over 86 GW at March 2024-end 

The Federal Network Agency or Bundesnetzagentur has released the latest statistics for new solar PV deployments in Germany, according to which the country installed 3,718 MW during Q1/2024. 

This capacity comprises 1.47 GW in January, 1.14 GW in February and 1.099 GW installed in March this year. These are revised numbers compared to the 1.42 GW and 1.07 GW the agency previously announced for January and February 2024, respectively (see Germany Added Over 1 GW New Solar In February 2024). 

During March 2024, unsubsidized ground-mounted solar installations increased by 179 MW and rooftop additions were a total of 15.2 MW. 

On the other hand, EEG-funded ground-mounted solar PV capacity was 14.4 MW at par with the previous month. The largest addition during March 2024 came in as 550.4 MW of EEG-funded rooftop solar capacity. Another 319.8 MW was added by ground-mounted PV awarded under the EEG tender scheme.   

On an annual basis, this reflects an increase of more than 18% over 3.136 GW the country installed in Q1/2023. At the end of March 2024, Germany's cumulative installed solar PV capacity increased to 86.218 GW. 

Compared to solar energy installations, Germany also installed 10 MW of biomass and 217 MW of onshore wind during the reporting quarter.
