Key Takeaways
  • Bundesnetzagentur counts February 2025 solar PV additions at over 1.53 GW

  • It comprises 967 MW in ground-mounted solar space and 402 MW on the rooftops

  • Balcony solar is also making its presence felt as the agency registered 24.2 MW capacity for this segment

Germany’s new solar PV additions in the month of February 2025 totaled 1.535 GW, up from 1.237 GW reported for the previous month by the country’s Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur). A capacity of 3 MW was decommissioned during the reporting month.

The January additions were an improvement over the 1.12 GW the agency had previously announced when it said that the country had exceeded the 100 GW cumulative PV installed capacity milestone (see Germany Officially Exceeds 100 GW Cumulative Solar PV Capacity).

Now, with 2.63 GW installed in the initial 2 months of 2025, Germany’s aggregate solar PV capacity now exceeds 102.6 GW.

Most of the capacity additions in February took place in the ground-mounted solar segment with 966.5 MW, followed by 402 MW rooftop solar capacity. Balcony solar systems continue to gain ground with the addition of 24.2 MW reported, up from 20.6 MW in the previous month.

Germany is the market leader in balcony solar as an increasing number of households install these devices to generate their own power, according to a new SolarPower Europe report on plug-in solar systems (see Plug-In Solar Systems Gain Popularity In Europe, Germany Leads The Way).
