Germany’s new solar registrations fell to 920 MW in September 2025 from 1.936 GW in August, according to BNetzA
Ground-mounted and rooftop PV installations both saw significant declines during the month
Germany must add 1.63 GW monthly to reach its 215 GW solar target by 2030, according to the agency
After 5 consecutive months of over 1 GW monthly solar PV additions, Germany recorded 920 MW of new solar registrations in September 2025, according to the country’s Federal Network Agency, or Bundesnetzagentur (BNetzA).
This compares to 1.28 GW installed in the month of September 2024 and 1.936 GW in August 2025, which is slightly down from the previously reported 1.95 GW for the month (see Germany’s August 2025 Installations Inch Closer To 2 GW).
While BNetzA did not specify the reasons for the decline in new PV registrations in September 2025, the sharp drop in ground-mounted installations – from 1.42 GW last month and 663 MW in July to just 343 MW – illustrates the slowdown.
Rooftop PV capacity also dropped to 455 MW in September, compared to 471 MW in August and 744 MW in July (see Germany Installs Over 1.4 GW New Solar Capacity In July 2025). Balcony solar or plug-and-play installations also declined from 64 MW in July and 61 MW in August to 41 MW in September, even though this segment had the largest volume of system registrations, with over 31.4 MW.
At the end of September 2025, Germany’s aggregate solar PV capacity reached 112.25 GW with the addition of 11.8 GW during 9M 2025.
According to BNetzA’s estimates, the country must install 1.63 GW of PV capacity on a monthly basis to be able to achieve the 215 GW cumulative capacity target by 2030.
