Key Takeaways
  • Germany’s new solar PV capacity additions in the month of July 2024 exceeded 1.4 GW

  • The installations in this month were led by 756.5 MW of EEG-supported rooftop PV systems

  • At the end of July 2024, its cumulative installed solar PV capacity added up to over 92 GW

Germany continues its GW-level streak for monthly solar PV installations with the addition of 1.404 GW in the month of July 2024. With this, the country has now installed 9.34 GW PV capacity within the initial 7 months of this year.

Last year in July 2023, Germany had installed 1.49 GW PV capacity. The July additions this year represent growth over 1.3 GW installed in the previous month for which the Federal Network Agency or Bundesnetzagentur previously announced 1.13 GW additions (see Germany Exceeds 90 GW Cumulative PV Capacity).

The July 2024 installations were led by EEG-supported rooftop solar systems that totaled 756.5 MW, followed by 355.4 MW of EEG tender scheme led 355.4 GW of ground-mounted PV systems.

Unsubsidized rooftop solar power systems registered a strong increase of over 300% with a sequential increase from 40.4 MW in June to 166.2 MW in July this year; however, ground-mounted system installations in this category dropped to 100.1 MW from 105.8 MW last month.

The largest increase in PV additions during the reporting month were reported in Bayern region with 2.22 GW, followed by 1.28 GW in Baden-Württemberg, and 1.26 GW in Nordrhein-Westfalen.

Overall, at the end of July 2024, Germany’s cumulative installed solar PV capacity exceeded 92 GW, followed by 62 GW of onshore wind, 9.04 GW of biomass, and 9.02 GW of offshore wind.
