Key Takeaways
  • Germany’s October 2024 new PV installations totaled 1.363 GW, according to Bundesnetzagentur

  • The largest additions of 530.2 MW were reported in the EEG subsidized solar installations for various structures, excluding the ground-mounted segment

  • It has also revised the registered capacity for September 2024 from 960 MW to 1.17 GW

The Federal Network Agency or Bundesnetzagentur in Germany counts the country’s newly registered solar PV capacity in the month of October 2024 as 1.363 GW, having improved by over 16% month-on-month (MoM), but dropped by more than 9% year-on-year (YoY).

From January to October this year, Germany brought online 13.13 GW of new PV capacity, it adds. This includes 1.17 GW deployed in September, which is an improvement over the 960 MW it reported previously for the market master data register for this month (see Germany’s September 2024 Solar Installations Totaled 960 MW).

Out of the capacity registered for the month of October this year, the agency counts the largest addition of 530.2 MW in EEG-supported structures, including rooftops.  Another 425.8 MW of ground-mounted PV was awarded under the EEG tender scheme. The registered capacity also includes 343.4 MW of unsubsidized ground-mounted projects.

The EEG is Germany’s flagship renewable energy support scheme under which the government offers a guaranteed feed-in tariff to the producers of renewable energy when they feed the energy produced into the grid.

In comparison, Germany added 161 MW of new onshore wind and 4 MW of new biomass capacity during the reporting month.

At the end of October 2024, Germany’s cumulative installed solar PV capacity reached 96.1 GW, just 4 GW short of the 100 GW milestone.
