Key Takeaways
  • Italy’s New Time partners China’s Huasun Energy to build 1 GW BIPV-focused solar module factory

  • They plan technical collaboration of HJT and perovskite technology in Emilia-Romagna region

  • The new Italian fab will produce solar roof tiles, pavements, and solar glass parapets

Heterojunction (HJT) solar PV technology leader from China, Huasun Energy has joined hands with New Time, an Italian architectural solutions company that has expanded to building integrated PV (BIPV) for a 1 GW module manufacturing factory in Italy.

The duo has signed a letter of intent (LOI) to collaborate on the factory in Emilia-Romagna region to roll out Made in EU solar products. New Time said the partnership will combine HJT technology with perovskite to develop roof tiles, solar pavements and PV glass parapets.

“The new factory will represent an important opportunity for developing the Italian technology supply chain, creating new qualified jobs, producing cutting-edge BIPV solutions,” according to New Time. It called it a concrete turning point towards European energy autonomy, regional industrial development, and the ecological transition.

Earlier this year, New Time announced its Net Zero plan worth €25 million to develop BIPV systems in Emilia-Romagna, backed by the Italian government funding from Invitalia. This will involve production of special PV glass in Budrio and a new central hub for assembling and research and development (R&D) activities at San Lazzaro di Savena, as per its website.

According to local media reports, New Time engineers will receive technical training from Huasun in China, and start production in Q3 2026.

New Time's announcement follows Italy’s Transizione 5.0 scheme that grants tax credits up to 150% for EU-made solar modules, rewarding higher efficiency levels to boost industrial renewable energy investments in the country (see Italy’s Transizione 5.0 Increases Tax Credits For European Solar Modules).

This collaboration with New Time follows Huasun’s 2024 partnership with Bee Solar to establish vertically integrated factory for wafers, cells and PV modules in Italy (see Chinese Partnership For GW-Scale Heterojunction Production In Italy).

TaiyangNews reached out to Huasun to seek an update on its Bee Solar collaboration and for the New Time partnership. Its response was awaited till the publication of this news.
