GREW raises INR 3 billion: Indian solar PV manufacturer GREW Solar has raised INR 3 billion ($34 million) to fund its expansion plans and develop new products. Raised from a group of high-net-worth individuals (HNI), including Vijay Kedia and Rohit Kothari of GeeCee Holdings, the funds will enable the Chiripal Group company to expand its 3 GW module factory in Rajasthan’s Dudu to 11 GW. Additionally, it plans to establish a 3 GW solar cell production facility in Madhya Pradesh’s Narmadapuram, and scale it up to 8 GW by the end of 2026, according to a company statement.

Speaking with TaiyangNews at the REI Expo 2024 in Greater Noida, GREW’s GM-Global Sales Sohil Barad had shared that the company plans to add another 3.6 GW module production capacity in Jammu and Kashmir to take its total production capacity to 6.4 GW. It also plans a 2.8 GW vertically integrated ingot, wafer, cell capacity in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua by March 2025 (see Newcomer GREW Unveils Made-In-India PV Modules At REI 2024).

ACME wins 50 MW FDRE project: Integrated renewable energy company ACME Solar Holdings has won a letter of award (LOA) for a 50 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project from Tata Power Company Limited (Tata Power-D). It won this tendered capacity with a tariff of INR 4.43/unit. The project will comprise multiple technologies, including solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS), to meet supply obligations under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA). ACME targets project commissioning within 24 months of the PPA signing date. It will need to maintain a minimum annual capacity utilization factor (CUF) of 40% and ensure 4 hours of peak-hour supply with 90% availability on a monthly basis. The company recently also placed an order for 2 GWh of BESS with China’s Chuzhou Lishen New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., through POSCO International Corporation and China FAW Group Import and Export Co., Ltd. It will be deployed across ACME’s FDRE and standalone BESS projects that are to be commissioned within the next 12 to 18 months.

ACME recently announced the acquisition of AK Renewable Infra Private Limited for INR 792.5 million ($9 million). The latter is developing a 300 MW renewable energy park in Rajasthan.

Mercom India Research

India expands open access capacity: India added close to 3.8 GW of new open access solar PV capacity during H1 2025, representing a decline of more than 4% on an annual basis. According to Mercom India Research’s Q2 2025 Solar Open Access Market Report, project execution during the reporting period was constrained by delays in connectivity approvals and limited transmission infrastructure in Q1. These increased in Q2 as developers rushed to commission projects ahead of the inter-state transmission system (ISTS) charges waiver deadline in June this year. Maharashtra led capacity additions, accounting for over 30% of the 2.7 GW open access capacity in Q2. As of the end of June 2025, the country’s cumulative installed open access solar capacity reached 24.6 GW, with 24% operational in Karnataka. The complete report can be purchased on Mercom’s website

Ceigall to build 337 MW solar: Indian infrastructure EPC group Ceigall India Limited has ventured into the renewable energy space. It will build 337 MW of solar power capacity in Maharashtra, for which it has secured letters of intent (LOI) from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Limited (MSEDCL). The work entails building 147 MW and 190 MW of solar power capacity across the state under the state government’s Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana 2.0.

AGEL’s operational portfolio expands: Adani Group company Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has announced that it has expanded its operational renewable energy generation capacity to 16.07 GW. This was thanks to the commercial operations of 87.5 MW power projects at Khavda in Gujarat, comprising 2 projects with 75 MW and 12.5 MW capacity.
