Jakson Engineers will invest INR 80 billion to build a 6 GW solar manufacturing facility in Madhya Pradesh
The project will be developed in 2 phases, including modules, cells, and wafers, across 110 acres
Initial module production is targeted for May 2026, followed by cells in September 2026
Jakson Engineers Limited, a subsidiary of the Jakson Group, has revealed plans to invest over INR 80 billion ($913 million) to set up a 6 GW integrated solar manufacturing facility at Maksi Phase II in Madhya Pradesh, calling it the largest solar manufacturing investment in the state.
The company plans to establish the project across 110 acres in 2 phases. Phase I, comprising 3 GW of solar modules and 3 GW of solar cells, is estimated to cost INR 20 billion ($228 million). Under Phase II, it will develop a 6 GW solar wafer plant and an additional 3 GW of solar modules and 3 GW of solar cell capacity, for an investment of INR 60 billion ($685 million).
Jakson targets rolling out the initial modules from the plant by May 2026, followed by cells in September 2026. These are ambitious plans for the company that currently operates 1.2 GW of solar module manufacturing capacity annually from its Greater Noida facility.
“Our fully integrated facility and unique 'four-in-one' business model as a manufacturer, developer, EPC, and O&M provider, aims to contribute to meeting India's energy needs and help position the country as a global solar leader,” said Jakson Solar Modules and Cells CEO and Joint Managing Director, Gagan Chanana. “This allows us to ensure quality, cut costs, and rapidly deploy new technology, boosting our energy security and self-reliance.”
India’s solar PV manufacturing initiatives are largely centered around Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, and Karnataka, according to a Mercom India Research report (see India’s Solar PV Manufacturing Capacity Improved By 37 GW In 2024).
Now, one can see diversification with some large-scale manufacturing projects coming up beyond these states. Jakson’s choice of Madhya Pradesh for the 6 GW project follows GP Eco Solutions’ MoU with the state government for 7 GW capacity in March this year (see India’s GP Eco Solutions’ 7 GW Solar PV Manufacturing Plans).
Recently, Jupiter International announced plans for a vertically integrated solar PV manufacturing plant worth INR 109 billion investment in Maharashtra (see India Solar PV News Snippets: Jupiter International’s Wafer-To-Module-Factory In Maharashtra & More).
