EBS inaugurates solar and storage project in Suriname, FRV wins 651 GWh solar and wind power in Chile auction; Eneva secures loan for 870 MW Brazil project; EGP building Colombia’s largest solar plant.
EBS inaugurated solar & storage project: The state-owned electric utility Energiebedrijven Suriname (EBS) of South American country Suriname has officially inaugurated a 300 kW solar PV with 250 kWh storage project in the country. It called it the 3rd solar project in the country with a population of around 600,000, and the 1st in Coronie region. It was realized by Sumec Group Corporation that was selected under a public tender. The hybrid project’s 920 solar panels are designed to generate around 1,300 kWh which will be supplied to approximately 9% of the local population. EBS said this project, along with the one in Nickerie with 2.3 MW solar and 1,000 kWh storage, is part of expansion and upgrade project being carried out with the help of a loan agreement between the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Ministry of Finance.
FRV wins 651 GWh annually in Chile RE auction: Spanish renewables company Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) has won 651 GWh annually in Chile’s recently concluded renewable energy auction for 5,250 GWh per year. It won 100% of the solar and wind capacity offered. According to FRV, it has been awarded 31 sub-blocks of the 250 auctioned for the 3 time slots, which means distributing energy 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. “”Chile represents an important market for us, as it has expressed a deep commitment to meeting the renewable energy targets of 60% by 2035 and at least 70% of electricity generation by 2050,” said Fady Jameel, Deputy President and Vice President of FRV owner Abdul Latif Jameel.
Loan for 870 MW solar project in Brazil: Brazilian power generation company Eneva has rasied BRL 300 million from Banco do Nordeste do Brasil SA to be invested for a 870 MW solar power project in Brazil. Called Future 1, the solar project is coming up in the state of Bahia and is expected to come online in Q4/2022. It was originally developed by Focus Energia which was acquired by Eneva in December 2021.
EGP building Colombia’s ‘largest’ solar PV project: Enel Green Power’s Enel Colombia has started the construction of Guayepo I and II solar park with a combined capacity of 487 MW DC in Colombia, calling it the country’s and South America’s ‘largest’ solar PV project. The project is coming up in the municipalities of Ponedera and Sabanalarga. It will be equipped with over 820,600 solar panels. The $290 million project will generate close to 1,030 GWh annually. EGP says its under construction 187 MW DC La Loma Solar Park was till now considered the largest in the country (see Latin America PV News Snippets).
