Ecuador’s 500 MW ERNC I renewables tender gets 700 MW technical offers; Dominican Republic’s CNE has provided concession to 100 MW AC solar PV capacity; Argentina has awarded $18 million to install solar PV for rural regions under PERMER facility; BNB supports 213 MW Brazilian solar park.

Offers for 700 MW RE pour in for Ecuador tender: The Ecuadorian Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) has received technical offers to build around 700 MW power generation capacity as against the offered 500 MW under the country’s Non-Conventional Renewable Energy Block (ERNC I). The list of wind, solar PV and hydroelectric technology projects has been offered by 10 international companies. According to the ministry, the ERNC I is made up of 4 sub blocks of small hydro power, solar PV, wind and biomass technologies, and seeks to reach an average an annual average energy of 2,119 MWh. The government expects a total investment of $875 million in bringing this capacity online. In May 2022, the ministry announced receiving interest from 37 companies for the 500 MW ERNC I tender. Economic offers will now be opened on December 28, 2022 (see 37 Bidders For Ecuador’s 500 MW RE Auction).

2×50 MW AC solar parks cleared in Dominican Republic: The National Energy Commission (CNE) in the Dominican Republic has given concession to Zonaxol SA for 60 MW DC/50 MW AC solar PV capacity to be deployed on the rooftops of the companies operating in the Santiago Industrial Free Zone Corporation (CZFS). It will enable the zone to reduce its CO2 emissions and save space. In the beginning of November 2022, the CNE also provided concession to EFD Ecoener Fotovoltaica Dominicana SRL to install 60.04 MW DC/50 MW Cumayasa I solar PV plant in Cumayasa section of the Villa Hermosa municipality in La Romana province. CNE said all the concessioned projects and those pending approval, guarantee the sustainable development of the sector and contribute to the country meeting 25% of national electricity demand from renewable energy by 2025 and 30% by 2030.

Solar lots awarded for Argentina’s rural region: The Argentinian Ministry of Energy has awarded $18 million for 6 lots for the supply and installation of solar PV equipment and associated internal facilities for 494 primary health care centers (CAPS) in 13 provinces. It will entail reliable, continues power supply for the rural communities, thereby improving care conditions for over 40,000 people in the interior regions. The capacity was awarded under the country’s Renewable Energy Project in Rural Markets of the National State (PERMER), supported by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (BIRF).

BNB backs solar complex in Brazil: Banco do Nordeste (BNB) has approved BRL 429 million to support the construction of 213 MW Caldeirão Grande 2 Solar Complex (CG2) in Caldeirão Grande do Piaui. The financing represents 56% of the volume needed by Ibitu Energias Renovaveis S/A to complete the project. Ibitu is also shelling out BRL 334 million from its own resources. The project is made up of 7 sub projects, out of which 1st is already online.
