Solar PV and onshore wind projects will compete in two capacity categories during the November 9 and 10 auctions in Poland this year
URE says projects above 1 MW will account for the larger share of the electricity volume allocated to the two technologies
Poland’s small-scale renewable energy capacity exceeded 5.9 GW at the end of 2025
Poland is set to hold its 2026 renewable energy auctions for solar PV and onshore wind projects on November 9 and 10, 2026 as per the latest auction schedule announced by the Energy Regulatory Office (URE).
Across all seven auction sessions that are planned to run between November 2 and November 10, the country will offer slightly more than 76 TWh of renewable electricity, with a maximum total value of about PLN 24.9 billion.
The final two sessions (on November 9 and 10) are reserved for investors in onshore wind and solar PV. Both the technologies will compete against each other in two categories. Onshore wind and solar PV projects of up to 1 MW will compete for 11.25 TWh of the total capacity on offer, valued at up to PLN 3.825 billion. On the other hand, projects above 1 MW will account for 53.25 TWh, valued at up to PLN 14.1 billion.
While solar and onshore wind will be among the final technologies to enter the auction process, the first sessions will cover other renewable sources including biogas, biomass, hydropower, bioliquids, waste-to-energy, and geothermal energy, among others.
The auctions will be conducted under the existing rules, with price as the only evaluation criterion. The 2026 auctions are intended only for new renewable energy installations, stated URE. The requirement follows a 2022 regulation of the Council of Ministers that sets the maximum volumes and values of renewable electricity that could be sold through auctions from 2022 to 2027. The agency said it will publish individual auction announcements in the regulator’s Public Information Bulletin.
The upcoming auctions come as Poland’s small-scale renewable energy segment continues to expand. According to a separate URE report, small-scale renewable energy installations generated nearly 5.5 TWh of electricity in 2025, up from 4.8 TWh in 2024. The number of such installations increased from 6,977 to 8,077, while their combined installed capacity rose from just over 5.1 GW to more than 5.9 GW.
The number of registered electricity generators also increased, reaching 4,333 in 2025, compared with 3,761 a year earlier. Electricity sold by these generators to obligated suppliers rose to more than 3.7 TWh, from over 3.4 TWh in 2024.
According to SolarPower Europe’s EU Solar Market Update: 2026 Mid-Year Analysis, Poland installed almost 2.5 GW of solar PV capacity in H1 2026, over 1.8 GW in H1 2025. This growth was mostly driven by utility-scale PV which analysts say reflects the continued shift of the Polish solar market from its traditionally prosumer-dominated structure towards larger installations (see SolarPower Europe Lifts 2026 EU Solar Forecast After H1 Growth).
