Key Takeaways
  • SoleFiori, a Hongjun New Energy subsidiary, plans to set up a 6 GW HJT module factory in Saudi Arabia

  • The facility will serve local and Middle Eastern clean energy demand with bifacial HJT modules

  • This marks SoleFiori’s overseas expansion, complementing its existing bases in Jiangsu and Guangdong, China

Chinese solar PV company SoleFiori, a subsidiary of Hongjun New Energy, has revealed plans to establish a 6 GW high-efficiency heterojunction (HJT) solar module manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia.

It recently signed cooperation agreements with its ‘Saudi partners’ for this project at the recent Beijing-Saudi Arabia Advanced Manufacturing Fair, organized by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources and the Federation of Saudi Chambers of Commerce in Beijing.

SoleFiori says its Saudi Arabian factory will leverage the company’s long-established, mature technologies and production processes to focus on the research and development and production of high-efficiency HJT modules. These will meet the growing demand for clean energy in the country as well as within the Middle East, since these bifacial modules are well-suited for the climate of the MENA region.

SoleFiori is building its 2nd HJT production base with 4 GW solar cell and 6 GW module manufacturing capacity in Qidong City of Jiangsu province. It has set up the company’s 1st production line in Zhuhai, Guangdong (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

The Saudi Arabian factory will mark the company’s attempts to expand its manufacturing footprint to outside China as part of its internationalization strategy, it stated.

Saudi Arabia, with its massive utility-scale solar projects and favorable regulatory environment, is emerging as a leading destination for manufacturers in the PV industry, especially those from China. In 2024, China’s TCL TZE joined hands with PIF and Vision Industries for a 20 GW solar ingot and wafer manufacturing partnership (see 20 GW Solar Ingot, Wafer Manufacturing Fab In Saudi Arabia).
