Vikram Solar has commissioned a new TOPCon solar module factory in Tamil Nadu
It says the new facility combines automation and digital technologies to improve manufacturing efficiency and product quality
It plans to expand the site beyond modules into integrated cell, wafer, and ingot manufacturing over the coming years
Vikram Solar Limited has commissioned a new solar module manufacturing facility in Gangaikondan, Tamil Nadu. It recently rolled out the first TOPCon solar module at the plant.
The company said the Gangaikondan campus will gradually evolve into a fully integrated manufacturing hub by adding solar cell, wafer, and ingot production.
“As we progressively add cell, wafer, and ingot production at this site, we are building an integrated manufacturing platform aligned with India’s domestic content framework strengthening supply chain resilience, enhancing domestic value creation, and supporting India’s clean energy ambitions,” said Vikram Solar Chairman and Managing Director Gyanesh Chaudhary.
According to its manufacturing capacity roadmap, Gangaikondan is planned to house a production capacity of 6 GW for modules and 12 GW for solar cells (see Vikram Solar Q1 2026 Revenues Up Nearly 80% YoY).
Built on a 600,000 sq. ft. greenfield site, the plant is expected to create more than 1,500 skilled jobs. Vikram Solar says the facility incorporates digital manufacturing technologies, designed to improve production efficiency, product quality, and traceability. High automation will reduce manual intervention across the manufacturing process.
The plant has begun manufacturing Vikram Solar's Hypersol N-Type TOPCon G12R modules, offering power outputs of 615 W to 640 W and module efficiencies of up to 23.69%.
Under its expansion roadmap, Vikram Solar plans to install 9 GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity by FY27, expand it by another 3 GW by FY28, and add 12 GW of wafer and ingot manufacturing capacity by FY29-30 to increase domestic value addition and supply chain resilience.
Part of its strategy to expand domestic manufacturing capacity and strengthen India's solar supply chain, the new Tamil Nadu facility follows the launch of the company's 5 GW module manufacturing plant in Vallam, also in Tamil Nadu, in November 2025 (see Vikram Solar Commissions 5 GW Solar Module Manufacturing Plant).
