  • Meton Energy has secured PPAs for 3 of its 5 solar power projects in Greece
  • The offtake agreements have been signed by Heron to supply its C&I customers
  • Optimus Energy has also signed long-term market representation agreements for the said projects

Meton Energy, the Greek joint venture (JV) between RWE Renewables Europe & Australia and PPC Renewables, has announced securing offtake agreements for close to 192 GWh solar energy from 3 PV projects it is developing in the country, with local independent electricity supplier Heron.

The power purchase agreements (PPA) are 3 project specific offtake agreements with a 10- and 12-year duration. Projects are identified as Orycheio Lakkia, Rodonas and Anargyroi 3 facilities all located in the Western Macedonia region in a former lignite mining area.

These and 2 more projects with a combined capacity of 210 MW DC/175 MW AC form the JV's total current portfolio with a scheduled commissioning date of Q1/2024-end (see RWE & PPC To Build 5 PV Projects In Greece).

Heron plans to cover part of its commercial and industrial (C&I) electricity portfolio supply needs in Greece with Meton Energy's solar power plants.

Additionally, Greek renewable energy aggregator and a subsidiary of Heron, Optimus Energy will support the PPAs by offering long-term market representation agreements for the 3 contracted solar projects. These agreements cover route-to-market and balancing services.

Calling these market representation agreements, the 1st of their kind in Greece, Optimus Energy Chairman of the Board of Directors Costas Baslis said, "These agreements help Optimus Energy to expand its leading role in the Greek market towards providing the necessary representation services which are essential to a long-term PPA."

Last year in 2022, Cero Generation said it had signed the 1st solar PPA in Greece with a private company to ensure the 100 MW PV project is developed subsidy-free (see News From Greece: RE Auctions & Solar PPA).
