Portugal-headquartered Greenvolt Group has started construction of its 600 MW/2.4 GWh Siedlce battery energy storage system (BESS) in Poland through its utility-scale renewable energy business, Greenvolt Power. The project, expected to begin commercial operation by the end of 2027, will be Poland’s largest battery storage facility and one of Europe’s largest, it claims. BYD Energy Storage will supply the battery technology, with the project comprising 210 battery containers and 105 transformer containers equipped with power conversion systems. Siedlce is part of Greenvolt’s approximately 4.6 GW probability-weighted BESS pipeline, including around 2.4 GW in Poland.
South Korean battery manufacturer LG Energy Solution has entered a strategic partnership with B2U Storage Solutions which is a US-based battery energy storage systems (BESS) manufacturer that works with repurposed EV batteries. Under the agreement, B2U will receive priority access to LG Energy Solution battery capacity and use its patented technologies to repurpose the batteries for grid-scale storage before recycling. The companies say their aim is to extend battery lifetimes and develop cost-competitive storage solutions for utilities, developers and large commercial users, including data centers.
InoBat, a Slovakia-based BESS manufacturer and integrator is moving forward on its plans to list on the Nasdaq. The company along with Cartesian Growth Corporation II, a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), recently filed a registration statement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Their business combination agreement (BCA) values InoBat at $1.265 billion on a pre-money, pre-merger basis. Following completion, the combined company is expected to list on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol INBT. InoBat counts Volkswagen Group-backed Gotion High-Tech, mining giant Rio Tinto, and Indian battery maker Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Limited among its strategic shareholders and partners.
Alongside the transaction, InoBat is expanding its European manufacturing footprint in Slovakia. At its Voderady site, the company is developing a BESS module, pack and container assembly facility with a targeted annual capacity of 5 GWh. Meanwhile, GIB EnergyX Slovakia, its gigafactory investment with Gotion in Šurany, is developing a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cell facility with an initial planned capacity of 20 GWh and targeted production start in 2027. The company is also advancing a sodium-ion battery roadmap in collaboration with Clarios and Altris.
Decade Energy, a European developer of energy infrastructure for truck electrification, has signed a two-year supply framework agreement with Sungrow. The China-headquartered energy storage technology company will provide Decade Energy with up to 200 MWh of battery storage equipment in France. Decade Energy says this agreement is intended to support its growing French project pipeline. It will also enable the company to reduce complexity between projects and create a ‘repeatable’ delivery model across multiple sites.
US-based SMT Energy has entered into an equity partnership with Climate Adaptive Infrastructure (CAI) for up to $268 million at the parent-company level. The investment, in addition to $32 million previously deployed by CAI into SMT assets, will support the development, construction and operation of battery storage projects across the US. SMT says the funding will enable it to develop and build energy infrastructure with an aggregate value significantly exceeding the equity investment. Its portfolio includes distributed-generation and utility-scale battery storage projects.
Singapore-based renewable energy developer Vena Energy has secured a contract for its NRE Nakagawa 2 Battery Storage Project in Japan. The 46.8 MW grid-connected battery energy storage system (BESS), under development near Matsumoto City in Nagano Prefecture, was selected in Japan’s FY2025 Long-Term Decarbonised Power Source Auction (LTDA) conducted by the Organisation for Cross-regional Coordination of Transmission Operators (OCCTO). Vena Energy says the LTDA provides long-term revenue certainty to support investment in decarbonized power infrastructure.
Nordic Solar, a Danish renewable energy company, has started commercial operation of a 20 MW/40 MWh BESS at its Moletai site in Lithuania. The battery is now integrated with the company’s existing 100 MW solar park, with hybrid trading now underway. The integration of solar generation and battery storage is expected to improve operational flexibility and enable the company to better utilize renewable power generation and market opportunities, stated Nordic Solar. The company switched on the 100 MW Moletai Solar Park in 2024 calling it the country’s largest back then (see Lithuania’s ‘Largest’ Solar Power Station Commissioned).
