Premier Energies is advancing its planned 12 GWh BESS manufacturing agreement with RCT with a shareholders’ agreement
The initial 6 GWh phase is expected to become operational in FY2027–28
RCT Nexor Energy can acquire a 15% stake in the JV in four tranches linked to project milestones, with an option to acquire an additional 5%
India’s Premier Energies Limited has finalized a shareholders’ agreement for a joint venture (JV) to establish a 12 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility in Telangana.
The agreement was signed between Premier Battery Technologies Private Limited (PBTPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Premier Energies; Premier Energies Storage Solutions Private Limited (PESSPL), the JV company; and RCT Nexor Energy Private Limited, part of Germany’s RCT Group.
The facility is planned to come up in Seetharampur, Telangana, with an initial capacity of 6 GWh expected to be established in FY2027-28. The duo signed a binding term sheet for the facility in September 2026 (see India Solar PV News Snippets).
The proposed facility will manufacture and assemble BESS for residential, small business, commercial, industrial, and utility-scale applications.
Under the agreement, RCT Nexor Energy will have the right to acquire a 15% stake in the JV through four tranches linked to project milestones. It will also have the option to acquire an additional 5% equity stake for cash consideration at the end of the first phase, subject to the agreement’s terms.
The JV’s board will comprise two nominees from PBTPL and one from RCT Nexor Energy.
With this joint venture, solar cell and module manufacturer Premier Energies will enter BESS manufacturing, targeting both domestic and international markets.
The company recently announced that it secured new orders worth INR 4,001 crore in Q2 FY2027 (July-September 2026). The orders cover 2,308 MW of solar cell and module supplies, along with EPC projects. It said the orders came from power producers, module manufacturers, EPC companies, and other customers, excluding the retail segment.
Premier Energies’ module manufacturing capacity has nearly doubled to 11.1 GW, while its solar cell capacity has increased to 10.6 GW following the commissioning of a 7 GW TOPCon cell manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh (see Premier Energies Commissions India’s ‘Largest’ Solar Cell Fab).
