Wärtsilä and RCT Solutions launch global BESS integrator platform called Valo
The JV combines Wärtsilä’s BESS technology and customer base with RCT Solutions’ engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain expertise
It will bring hardware, software, engineering, and long-term services together under one roof, including lifecycle support across global markets
German engineering firm RCT Solutions GmbH and Finnish technology group Wärtsilä have established their joint venture (JV) called Valo three months after announcing an agreement to this effect.
The companies had announced plans to establish a 50:50 JV in June 2026 (see Wärtsilä, RCT Form Energy Storage Joint Venture).
The company enters the market with a portfolio of more than 20 GWh across over 130 utility-scale energy storage projects worldwide as it takes over Wärtsilä’s global energy storage business. Equally owned by Wärtsilä and RCT Solutions GmbH, Valo will operate across Australia, Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
Valo aims to combine hardware, software, engineering, and long-term services into a single BESS solution, reducing the need for customers to manage multiple technologies and suppliers. According to Valo CTO Dr. Luke Witmer, effective system integration is key to project performance.
The company will offer BESS solutions, manufacturing, intelligent controls, optimization technologies, project execution, and lifecycle support through its global energy storage platform.
According to the companies, Valo combines Wärtsilä’s global energy storage capabilities, technology, and customer base with RCT Solutions’ engineering expertise, vertical integration, global supply chain knowledge, and industrial execution capabilities.
Valo also expands RCT Solutions expand its existing activities in battery energy storage space. It is led by CEO Prof. Dr. Peter Fath, the Founder and CEO of RCT Solutions (see Wärtsilä Energy Storage Names Peter Fath New CEO).
“Valo has the experience, technology, and people to deliver reliable performance at scale from day one. But our ambition goes further,” said Fath. “We will raise the standard for how energy storage systems are designed, delivered, and supported throughout their lifetime.”
