Chinese solar wafer, cell and module producer LONGi Solar has achieved what it terms as a new world record with 25.82% power conversion efficiency for its heterojunction (HJT) solar cells. It claims validation of the same by German Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin (ISFH).

LONGi explained the efficiency has been recorded for its M6 commercial size HJT cell and exceeds the company's previous milestone efficiency of 25.26% it reported for the same cell in June 2021 (see LONGi Claims 3 New Cell Conversion Efficiency Records), which was also attained by Huasun in less than a month. Management did not share any more details about the new achievement.

In June 2021, it had also reported 25.21% efficiency for N-type TOPCon cells, followed by 25.19% efficiency for P-type TOPCon cells. It added that the conversion efficiency of 24.06% it achieved for monocrystalline bifacial PERC solar cells in January 2019 remains intact to date (see LONGi 24.06% Efficiency PERC Cell World Record).

LONGi said research and development into HJT solar cell technology is an important focus for the company as it invests over 5% of its sales revenues annually on R&D efforts. The Chinese company said it promotes industrialization of new high-efficiency cell technology to upgrade the entire industry.
