Key Takeaways
  • DMEGC Solar’s Sihong and Lianyungang module bases have earned SSI ESG Silver certification

  • This certification ensures the company’s n-type PV modules are compliant with ESG and traceability standards at a 100% level

  • In addition to the SSI certification, DMEGC maintains its ESG credentials with MSCI, CDP, and EcoVadis

DMEGC Solar has achieved a milestone in its sustainability commitment, with its 2 module manufacturing bases in Sihong and Lianyungang, Jiangsu province, receiving Silver-level certification from the Solar Stewardship Initiative (SSI)

This certification ensures that the n-type modules produced at these 2 bases fully meet the international environmental, sustainability, and governance (ESG) standards. According to the company, this move enhances its competitiveness and reliability as a trusted supplier to the European market. It adds that its ESG performance has been consistently validated by multiple international rating agencies, including an MSCI ESG rating of BBB, a CDP Water Security rating of A-, a B rating for Climate Change, and an EcoVadis Silver medal.

The MSCI ESG rating is a widely recognized system developed by Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) to evaluate how well companies manage ESG risks and opportunities. The measurement of how effectively companies manage water-related risks and opportunities in their operations and supply chains is validated by the CDP Water Security rating, an evaluation system developed by the CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project). Its Climate Change rating also evaluates how effectively a company measures, manages, and reduces its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and climate-related risks. However, the EcoVadis Silver Medal is a sustainability rating awarded to companies that demonstrate strong performance in ESG practices based on the EcoVadis assessment system.

SSI, a jointly launched initiative by SolarPower Europe and Solar Energy UK, serves as a sustainability assurance program to strengthen transparency and responsible practices across the PV value chain. Its ESG framework assesses companies across 3 key dimensions: governance and business ethics, environmental protection, and human and labor rights. According to its latest directives, within the next 3 years, all PV modules exported to European markets by SSI members must meet ‘stringent’ ESG and traceability standards. As a result, SSI certification is increasingly seen as an essential ‘passport’ for PV manufacturers seeking to enter or expand in Europe’s regulated market.
