Key Takeaways
  • The survey covers 191 products from 15 companies, including 109 encapsulation materials and 82 backsheets

  • Encapsulation products increased from 89 to 109, while backsheet listings declined from 95 to 82

  • EVA remains the largest encapsulation category, while non-fluoropolymer products account for the majority of listed backsheets

Polymers not only vary in their chemistries and configurations but are also supported by a well-established supplier ecosystem. The 2026 TaiyangNews Market Survey on Encapsulation and Backsheet Materials, now in its 6th edition, includes responses from 15 companies, covering a total of 191 products – up slightly from 184 products from 17 companies in the previous edition. The survey features most of the market leaders in the 2 segments and one new entrant, Navitas Alpha from India – a joint venture between Navitas Solar, a well-known Indian module manufacturer, and Alpha Plastomers, a packaging solutions specialist also based in India. The dip in participants is due to a lack of response from 2 participants from last year – Sunlink and Enrich. We have also not included Shingi Urja on the backsheet suppliers list, as the company has not updated its product offering. In addition, the company’s website was inactive during our review, limiting our ability to verify current product information and market activities.

Although the total number of listed products remained largely unchanged, the product mix shifted significantly toward encapsulation materials. By split, the survey lists 109 encapsulation products and 82 backsheet products. While encapsulation offerings grew from 89 products compared to the previous edition, backsheet listings decreased from 95. This shift is understandable; with the rise of TOPCon technology, the industry has largely shifted toward glass-glass modules, leading to a significant drop in backsheet demand. As multiple cell architectures are now in commercial use, each requiring a specific encapsulation solution, activity in the encapsulation segment has intensified.

When it comes to suppliers, since backsheets and encapsulation materials are polymers at their core, a few companies supply both, while others remain exclusive to one stream. Within the survey, Hangzhou First, Cybrid, Jolywood, Endurans, Betterial, Crown, Navitas, and RenewSys offer both encapsulation materials and backsheets. Suppliers including SVECK, HIUV, SATINAL, Sinopont, and Alishan focus exclusively on encapsulation materials, while Coveme and Aluminium Féron remain dedicated backsheet suppliers. The participant mix again reemphasizes the growing importance of encapsulation materials within the PV module materials segment, and, of course, the majority of companies are focusing on both (see the tables below for details). The encapsulation survey also includes the input from Dow as a polyolefin resin supplier as well as a novel silicone-based encapsulation solution provider.

Material Specialists: The 2026 survey includes 15 participating companies. Of these, 8 supply both encapsulation materials and backsheets, 5 focus exclusively on encapsulation products, and 2 specialize solely in backsheets.

From a portfolio perspective, EVA remains the largest encapsulation category, with 53 listed products from 13 suppliers, followed by 37 POE products from 12 companies. EPE is listed under the multi-layer structure, represented by 19 products from 8 suppliers. Among the suppliers, 7 companies promote products across all 3 categories, 5 are represented in the EVA and POE segments, and only 1 participant does not list a product under the POE category but is active in supplying EPE.

The backsheet segment contracted further in this year’s survey, with the number of products declining to 82 from 95 in the previous edition. These products are listed under fluoropolymer and non-fluoropolymer segments, promoted by 10 companies. Of these, 5 companies are promoting backsheets across both chemistries, with 2 companies exclusively focusing on halogen-free solutions and 3 exclusively relying on fluoropolymer configurations. In terms of product distribution, 30 are based on fluoropolymer chemistry, while the non-fluoropolymer segment comprises the remaining 52.
