Key Takeaways
  • Megasol Energy has launched its latest anti-glare PV module, M450

  • It features ‘ZRM+ glare-reduction technology’ to maintain luminance below the safety threshold of airport applications

  • This 450 W dual-glass module is now commercially available

Megasol Energy Ltd., a Switzerland-based building-integrated-photovoltaic (BIPV) solution and PV module maker, has unveiled its latest M450 series antiglare solar module.

With a focus on airports, highways, and urban environments, this module features ‘ZRM+ surface technology’. Featuring a finely textured surface at a micro level, the glass is also coated with a ‘special’ chemical to have a non-glossy or matte finish. Unlike standard glass, its surface pattern scatters the incoming sunlight, which not only ‘significantly’ reduces mirror-like reflection or glare, but also enhances uniformity of light distribution. The company claims it produces a brightness (luminance) in between 3,000 cd/m² (candela per square meter) and 9,000 cd/m² , which is well below the safety threshold of 20,000 cd/m² for airport applications. In addition, an independent glare assessment test by the Bern University of Applied Sciences confirms that the module’s luminance levels remain safe and uniform under a range of viewing angles.

With a size of 1,762 × 1,134 × 30 mm and a rated power output of up to 450 W, the module has a power density of 225 W/m². In addition to anti-glare glass, its full-black design further enhances architectural appeal. Its glass-glass configuration is also rated for up to HR5 category hailstorm resistance.

This module is commercially available and carries a product and performance warranty of up to 30 years.
